For the muscle to grow, we need to fatigue it once per movement session; then allow it recovery time to build up mass/strength. My average workout is a total of 6 sets/10 minutes. If your intention is to lose weight, do as many set's as you want, on an empty stomach (no sugar drinks either, just water); because your body will be using fat as fuel, during your fasting workout time. If your intention is to build muscle, two sets per muscle, per session, will do the job - Set 1, is your warm up set - Set 2, put in the required effort to fatigue/exhaust the muscle.
