Each time there is a disaster in California, I can never NOT think about this excellent reporting by Jasmine Aguilera on the accessibility of emergency alert systems. In a state where nearly half the population speaks a language other than English at home, in most counties emergency alerts—providing life-saving information such as evacuation orders and shelter locations—are not translated. Fortunately, Los Angeles County is among those that do have e-alerts in other languages. Now is a good time to look at the e-alert systems where you live. Are you subscribed?
