#aageconference2024 - Day one reflections! - fascinating session with Prosple reflecting on the over saturation of DEI content for our graduate and intern positions. DEI is your “ticket to ride”, but students want more granular info on the opportunities. Good food for thought. - listening to three global leads in our industry Siobhan Warren, Shanan Green and Stephen Isherwood waxing lyrical about where our industry was at. Heartening (and disheartening in the same breath!) that some of the challenges we face are universal - rapidly increasing application volumes, flattening volumes of roles, leaner budgets. Bring on Day 2!

A simple formula that has ALWAYS worked for me to learn more from my opportunities: Being curious. “I am a social media intern, but can I also participate in the editorial meetings?” “I would love to know more about the organization; how did you guys start this thing?” “That video transition looks so cool! Where do you find these assets?” Most of the time, no one expects more from you than your assigned duties. But showing interest in things beyond your scope of work goes a long way in your learning process, as well as building great connections.

In my short time interning at Infinity Marketing, I have learned many things, but my favorite experience has been seeing how Infinity uses CliftonStrengths in the workplace. On my first day, I took the StrengthsFinder assessment and discovered my top 5 strengths: Futuristic, Consistency, Discipline, Harmony, and Analytical. After reading my strengths breakdown, I was curious but also confused. How do I energize people with my visions of the future? How does Harmony work with Analytical? Is Discipline really a strength? All I felt was uptight. I quickly realized these questions were not going to be overlooked. First, I am extremely interested in Talent and Development, so this is just my cup of tea (my advisor, Vanessa Ferguson, MHR, was kind enough to give me a copy of the Discover Your CliftonStrengths book). Secondly, Infinity fully integrates CliftonStrengths into its entire culture. Everyone's top 5 strengths are added below their names in their internal signatures. New employees receive a full 2.5-hour strengths training session where they ask questions about their strengths, learn how to use them, and learn to grow confident in their talents, rather than just focusing on their weaknesses. Employees take ownership of their strengths. I hear strengths brought up in everyday conversation ("My Responsibility was NOT going to let that happen!") and supervisors praise employees' use of strengths in their Annual Review Prep sessions. I scheduled a meeting with Cassie Thompson, SHRM-SCP, our Senior Director of People and Culture, who is responsible for this wonderful integration. I wanted to learn more about my strengths and the program as a whole. She explained to me how my strengths would be great for a team lead position, that Harmony is not so much about the lack of conflict as it is about balance, and gave me references within the company to talk to about managing the shadow side of my Discipline strength. Cassie also assigned me to research People Strategy throughout my internship, a project that continues to broaden my ideas of what my future career could look like and how CliftonStrengths could be used. My time to learn from Cassie is not quite up yet, and I can't wait to see how much more I learn in my last month!

Thrilled to share that I’ve recently completed an enriching externship program! During this journey, I delved deep into the world of retail media networks, uncovering B2B advertising tactics and revenue strategies. I analyzed global digital advertising trends in travel and retail, pinpointing new patterns and opportunities. I also crafted a comprehensive insights presentation to aid in corporate strategic planning. Through in-depth research on major retail media networks, I assessed their advertising products, revenue models, and market impact.
