*writing after a long gap alert* bitter truths of Indian ecommerce space majority of the ppl here on #LinkedIn are professionals, job hunters, corporate working class crowd, imho very few #Entrepreneurs are active over here as ROI on time spent is much less over here in compare to other SM apps, and by #Entrepreneurs I mean the real one, the bricks & mortar ones, not the service providers, coz earning an #Entrepreneur tag and tagging oneself as an #Entrepreneur are two different things. So understanding #ecommerce space from an entrepreneur point of view, I hv few points to make: # enter into #ecommerce only if you can sell your product at 10x margin, anything lower than that won't survive (yes, if you are buying a successful ecommerce brand, you are paying 10x) # Internet is meant for an "Aadarsh Samaj", a perfect fair society, whereas we live in India, so factor that before you start something, coz what you see is not what you get # most of #ecommerce marketplaces are disguised marketplace they are actually usual sellers # social commerce is myth created by smart professionals turned #Entrepreneurs to fleece VC firms backed by international investors # We will never be able to beat China, so make peace with it, look for cheap products and sell them easily with 10x margin, no need to feel guilty, every big player is doing that only. This one is for all the Indian businesses and consumers. We have seen a significant shift in the consumer behaviour when it comes to B2C businesses. A couple of year back we Indians were obsessed with the foreign retail brands but in the last couple of years the market has seen a significant shift towards homegrown Indian brands selling top quality products. This is inspiring—it shows that we are now focusing more on the quality and reliability of products or services rather than just the brand name. But when it comes to B2B services—like consulting, IT, and infrastructure—the story is very different. Businesses are still relying heavily on big global brands. I understand that in B2B, decisions involve multiple people and come with higher risks like privacy issues, financial losses, or operational disruptions. Still I firmly believe even if these factors kept aside, it’s disappointing to see Indian startups, which often offer better, more cost-effective, and personalized solutions, not getting a fair chance. I think this happens because of a traditional mindset and outdated processes that make it harder for new vendors or service providers to get onboarded. We often talk about how Western countries are using India’s IT talent and why so many of our skilled people move abroad. But it’s really about demand and supply. If we don’t give enough opportunities to our own companies, how can we expect talent to stay in the country? How can we reduce income inequality or build a stronger ecosystem? Despite this, I am much optimistic that we do have an undercurrent that will start showing up soon on the surface.
