Education is a key enabler for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. However, this study found gaps in #sustainability #education in higher education institutions. In particular, in: 🧑🎓 Improving the clarity of concepts, definitions and theoretical applications 🧑🎓 Evolving programs for professional development generated from sustainable development industry practice 🧑🎓 Implementing a robust protocol for impact measurement, that includes objective, reproducible, and scalable assessment methods that address gaps and imbalances in geographical representation. Transforming Education for Environmental Literacy: Insights from the DELiTE Workshop Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the groundbreaking workshop on 21st-Century Curriculum Development for Environmental Literacy, hosted by the DELiTE project at Summit University, Offa. This transformative event brought together experts from diverse fields to reimagine how post-primary education in Nigeria can empower students to tackle pressing environmental challenges. The workshop was rich in insights, particularly from the keynote address by Professor Hamdallat Yusuf of the University of Ilorin. Her presentation on a culturally sensitive, open-access curriculum model and a robust five-stage curriculum development framework was a revelation. It was inspiring to see a focus on fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and experiential learning to address real-world issues such as pollution control, clean energy generation, and climate change adaptation. Key takeaways for me include: - The importance of integrating innovative teaching methodologies that go beyond rote learning. - How to design a curriculum that is inclusive, culturally relevant, and impactful for students and communities. - Strategies for measuring outcomes, ensuring that what we teach translates to actionable environmental stewardship. Additionally, the opportunity to collaborate and network with a remarkable lineup of scholars and practitioners was invaluable. The conversations with experts have sparked new ideas for how we can use AI and STEM to make environmental education more effective and engaging. A special kudos to Abiodun Musa Aibinu, Principal Investigator of the DELiTE project and Vice-Chancellor of Summit University, for his leadership in steering this initiative. The DELiTE project, as part of the prestigious 2024 Global E-STEM Awards from the NAAEE, is a testament to what collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision can achieve. I look forward to applying the knowledge gained and exploring potential collaborations to contribute to building a generation of environmentally conscious citizens. Let’s continue the conversation on how we can collectively advance environmental literacy in education! #EnvironmentalLiteracy #CurriculumDevelopment #EducationInnovation #STEM #Collaboration #AI4FS #Sustainability #GKFly2025

#latestactivities Dynamic goals for sustainable development in universities: An overview analysis of SDG integration Editor’s note: This article has been developed from the insightful research published in Nature.com by Bifeng Zhu, Tao Wang, Gebing Liu, and Congyue Zhou. Universities play a critical role in advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), yet there is a noticeable gap in research regarding the internal dynamics of how these global objectives are pursued within academic institutions. A recent study aims to bridge this gap by delving into the intricate relationships between environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability in the top 100 universities, as ranked by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. This research provides valuable insights into the dynamic goals driving the sustainable development of universities across five continents and offers a framework for understanding how these institutions can effectively integrate SDGs into their operations. The study employs several analytical models, including the coupling model, the Sustainable Development Triangle, and Grey Relational Analysis, to examine the interconnections between different aspects of university sustainability. Through this analysis, it becomes evident that while universities worldwide are progressively advancing sustainability, there is a stark disparity in development levels across continents. The findings categorise universities into three distinct tiers of progress, highlighting significant differences in sustainability quality across regions. This study contributes to an in-depth understanding of the overall situation and main characteristics of sustainable development among global top universities, particularly regarding the interpretation of the coupling relationship between university actions and the SDGs. Such insights are crucial for enhancing the sustainable development of universities in all regions, especially in the post-pandemic era. #CATEawards2024 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Professor Claire Hughes and Dr Lynda Dunlop from the University of York share their institution's approach to overcoming the challenges of interdisciplinary teaching and learning. They discuss how the University of York has established a suite of York Interdisciplinary Modules (YIMs) that bring together students from all disciplines to collaborate on pressing sustainability challenges such as the future of food and the climate crisis. The article outlines the structures, systems and collaborative approaches the university has implemented to make these interdisciplinary modules accessible and impactful for students. It highlights how the YIMs provide valuable real-world experiences for students to apply their interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, and how the modules are research-informed and linked to wider sustainability initiatives at the university. This insightful piece offers a versatile blueprint for how higher education institutions can facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and learning to better equip graduates with the competencies needed to drive change for a more sustainable future.https://https://lnkd.in/eeFvJUmy
