On 1st Jan 2025, I didn’t set resolutions. I built a foundation instead. This year, I told myself: “Stop chasing results. Start building systems.” The thing is, goals can feel overwhelming. Earn more. Work out daily. Learn something new. Great intentions often become wishful thinking without a clear path. I didn’t want to start 2024 with pressure—I wanted clarity. So, instead of goals, I focused on structure. Here’s how I reframed my year: 🔘 1. Celebrate what worked: I took a moment to reflect on the habits and choices from 2023 that paid off. The early morning walks. Weekly check-ins with myself. That one big risk I finally took. Sometimes, growth isn’t about starting over—it’s about doubling down on what’s already working. 🔘 2. Set my non-negotiables: I picked 5 pillars to anchor my year: Energy (physical & mental well-being) Relationships (showing up for loved ones) Purpose (finding joy in what I do) Learning (books, courses, experiences) Simplicity (embracing less, but better) These became my compass—guiding every decision. 🔘 3. Create ‘Growth Systems’: I built structures that naturally support progress instead of rigid goals. For example: If I want to stay fit, I focus on showing up at the gym 4x a week—no fixed results, just consistency. If I want financial stability, I automate my savings and track spending monthly. Progress doesn’t have to be flashy—it just needs to move forward. 🔘 4. Focus on daily wins: I realized the small things make the big differences: One thoughtful conversation with a friend. One extra hour offline. One small step toward a big dream. Growth isn’t a grand gesture. It’s the sum of intentional, consistent actions. The result? I don’t feel overwhelmed by expectations anymore. I feel supported by the structure I’ve created. And that’s the magic—progress happens when you create space for it. 2024 was a year focused on building a new foundation. . At the beginning of 2024, Nathan Byrd and I set out our intent for the year... the intent was to simplify and move towards our goals in excellence and to enjoy the process through having gratitude in all things as well as generosity. ** we're hard workers and very driven but we definitely aren't the succeed at ALL costs kind of people** Our word for the year was EGG and multiple times during the year we would come back to that filter to make sure we were still aligned. E.xcellence = making sure that we weren't holding ourselves to a standard of perfection, but excellence as well as not saying yes to so many things that we weren't able to do the important things with excellence. G.ratitude = Instead of resenting the process and being results driven, we focused on having gratitude in all moments. G.enerosity = from focusing on the first 2 things we can be generous. We aren't creating success in life just for ourselves, but to continue to be able to make a greater impact. . So this year as we're on our new years retreat in Alaska intentionally reflecting, refueling and refocusing for the year ahead... the word (filter/focus) came to mind... I'm literally not even making this up 🤣 Our word for 2025 is... NOG. N.ourishment = focusing on nourishment in all areas (body, spirit, mind, business, relationships) - nourishing the things that we are stewarding. O.rganization = organizing and simplifying EVERYTHING!!! This includes growing our systems and teams etc. And saying NO to a lot of things! G.row = through focusing on the first 2, we grow... rather than burnout. Not only do we grow, but we stay in alignment... Why I’m Focusing on Systems, Not Goals, for 2025 As we wrap up 2024, let’s talk about the classic “New Year’s resolutions.” Every year, we set ambitious goals—lose weight, earn more, and grow professionally. But let’s be real—how often do those goals last beyond January? This year, I’m flipping the script. Instead of chasing goals, I’m building systems. Here’s why: 1️⃣ Goals are destinations; systems are journeys. Goals tell you what to achieve, but systems show you how. Systems focus on daily habits, making progress inevitable. Example: Instead of “I want to read 30 books in 2025,” my system is simple: “Read for 15 minutes every night.” It’s pressure-free and easy to sustain. 2️⃣ Systems are sustainable. Burnout is real. We’ve all felt it chasing ambitious targets. Systems let you grow bit by bit without relying on willpower. They make showing up daily the real achievement. 3️⃣ Progress happens even without the finish line. What happens if you don’t hit your goal? With a system, it doesn’t matter. By sticking to the process, you’re already winning. 🔑 How I’m approaching 2025 with systems: Instead of “earn X by Q2,” I’ll focus on connecting with 5 new people every week. Instead of “get fit,” I’ll focus on exercising for 30 minutes each morning. Instead of “become more creative,” I’ll spend 15 minutes every evening exploring Pinterest ideas for my home décor niche.
