ENVIRONMENT - Bolstering water access? Or just plugging leaks? The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s added $3.6 billion for U.S. water infrastructure is a step, but with two million Americans still without clean drinking water—and disadvantaged communities hit hardest—the scale of the challenge is immense. This funding, now part of a $50 billion bipartisan initiative, could open doors for new technologies and private investments to combat contaminants and outdated systems. As Rob Day of Spring Lane Capital highlights, “the backlog in water projects is massive,” and decades of underfunding haven’t helped. His firm is focused on tech solutions that can tackle “forever chemicals” like PFAS and create water-saving innovations in areas like data centers, with promising returns already seen in the S&P Global Water Index and other ETFs. But is the funding enough? Explore the full story on what it takes to truly fix water access. https://lnkd.in/eW38D6uG Invesco US Invesco Ltd. Access to safe, clean drinking water is a human right. But much of the water infrastructure across the U.S. has been in use for decades longer than originally intended, making millions of people’s tap water unsafe to use. So, what can we do about it? In a new article from ImpactAlpha, Amy Cortese dives into insights from water expert and RWJF consultant Radhika Fox on the issue and discusses how impact investing tools can help move crucial water infrastructure improvement projects forward. https://lnkd.in/gcWySdT9

Congrats to the Village of Skokie for completing a ComEd fleet electrification assessment and receiving a rebate to purchase six electric municipal fleet vehicles! Skokie was one of the first 12 municipalities to achieve our EV Readiness Program certification, which helps governments reduce barriers to EV ownership and infrastructure investment. City of Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns, Chairman of the Caucus Executive Board and the Environment and Energy Committee, spoke at a recent press conference that highlighted Skokie's accomplishments. "It’s important that local governments lead by example, and the EV Readiness Program encourages municipalities to transition their fleets to electric power," Burns said. "While Skokie is leading in transitioning to an electric transportation future, we are proud to support communities of all sizes and strengths in becoming EV Ready. More than half of our EV Ready Communities face environmental justice issues. Their work will equitably improve air quality and access to clean transportation for those most at risk." For more information about the EV Readiness Program, go to: https://lnkd.in/gjk6SMEi To apply to the program, go to: https://lnkd.in/eY7qy5S #EVs #EVreadiness #FleetElectrification #ElectricFleet #sustainability
Lots of excitement at Village Hall this morning as ComEd joined Governor JB Pritzker in presenting Mayor George Van Dusen and the Village of Skokie with a $45,000 electric vehicle (EV) rebate check, helping provide funding to further electrify the Village’s municipal fleet. Skokie is making rapid progress in expanding EVs, with four public charging stations and five municipal fleet ports added to date, and additional charging ports planned over the next year. Skokie was also one of the first 12 Illinois municipalities to achieve certification through the ComEd and Metropolitan Mayors Caucus EV Readiness Program, which helps governments reduce barriers to EV ownership and infrastructure investment. https://lnkd.in/gdGHBfRR

Congratulations Marlene Hormes, CFA, Elan Emanuel, Paul O'Connell, Catherine Colyer Hasan Andalib and the entire WaterEquity team and John Moyer for this $100M fund that will invest in infrastructure projects and growth companies that are working to scale climate-resilient water and sanitation solutions in key markets including Brazil, Mexico, Peru, India, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, and the Philippines. At a time when Mexico City's groundwater is rapidly disappearing, and excessive extraction is causing the city to sink, I can't think of a more important moment to prioritize investments in companies, technologies, and infrastructure projects that will improve water management, wastewater treatment, and efficient water use. It's an urgency and an opportunity. With nearly $500M in assets under management, thank you WaterEquity for continuing to demonstrate that financial rigor and investing in companies solving urgent challenges like water, comprehensive impact KPIs, and meeting the needs of underserved populations can co-exist. A decade ago, institutional and impact investors said water was not an investable asset class, and today you are proving that this thesis is inaccurate. Investing in water is a $1 trillion opportunity. Great to see strategic investors at the table including Xylem, Microsoft, Reckitt, and Starbucks, with DFIs like the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and the innovative finance ecosystem proving there is a different way forward. https://lnkd.in/epVgFUiz CC: Julia Wilkinson Raul Pomares Sandra Y Sainz Heredia Hector Mujica Hamzah Sarwar Patricia O'Hayer Randi Wolfson YOCA ARDITI-ROCHA Rafia Qureshi Sean McManus Wenyi Cai Rehan Baig Wendy Wecksell ("WxL") Amy Dornbusch Anthony Randazzo, CFA Marilia Bezerra Amy Brusiloff Samir Ibrahim #investinwater #impactinvesting #climateaction #finance

A big thank you to Responsible Investor and Lucy Fitzgeorge-Parker for their interest in my thoughts on transition finance, particularly from a viewpoint of an infrastructure investor. While huge investments need to flow into the new low-carbon infrastructure, transitioning existing infrastructure is pivotal for meeting global carbon reduction targets. Infrastructure investors can be the driving force behind the Net Zero transition for those sectors in which their assets play a critical role. In this article, I delve into examples from the transportation sector looking at roads, ports and airports.
