Brand IMS’ Post

Why does Andrex use a puppy? Andrex hasn’t always been about this adorable Labrador causing mischief with toilet rolls. In fact, the original concept featured a little girl pulling a roll of Andrex behind her, but that idea was blocked by television regulators as it was thought that the image of a child running through a house with a roll of toilet paper would encourage wastefulness. Enter the Andrex Puppy in 1972. Why did it work so well? · Softness & Gentleness – Nothing says “luxuriously soft” quite like a fluffy puppy. · Warmth & Comfort – Puppies = instant emotional connection. Toilet paper alone isn’t exactly thrilling, but the puppy makes it feel cosy, reassuring, and familiar. · Memorability – A cute Labrador rolling through the years? Unforgettable, which is exactly what every brand wants. Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the most effective. And in this case, a puppy proved to be pure marketing gold. #brandingdoneright #andrexpuppy #brandidentity
