Australia’s hybrid car sales soared 76% in 2024, yet the government is ending tax breaks for plug-in hybrids on April 1. The Motor Trades Association of Australia is concerned this move could stall progress on cleaner transport. Speaking with The Sydney Morning Herald, our CEO Matthew Hobbs said: 💬 “The real shame with plug-in hybrids is we’ve got this great policy at the moment … But that gets grandfathered on the first of April and it’s not being extended. The shame about that is the good plug-ins are starting to arrive just as the policy turns into a pumpkin.” We urge the government to extend financial incentives and capitalise on the growing popularity of plug-in hybrids. Do you think plug-in hybrids should keep the tax break? Share your thoughts! #EVs #Hybrids #PHEVs #MTAA https://lnkd.in/gMNiCk_5

🚨2030 is officially back!🚨 Fantastic to see the Government highlighting the importance of the electric vehicle transition in the budget today, and even better to see the 2030 date return in black and white. Aligning the ZEV Mandate with the ban on sales of new ICE vehicles aligns consumers and the industry towards a common date which can only be a good thing. Other highlights include: 🤝Maintaining the existing salary sacrifice and BIK incentives to support the new electric car market 💸Clarity around the VED rates coming in next year for each fuel type ⚡£120 million to support the plug-in vehicle grant scheme to support the electric van transition Ian Plummer, Commercial Director said: "Big news in the electric transition as we finally get official confirmation that the 2030 ban on new ICE vehicle sales returns after being pushed back by the former Government. This, alongside maintaining existing incentives and introducing preferential VED rates for electric cars, will have a positive impact on the electric transition - but given the scale of the challenge, there's still more we all need to do to help boost consumer confidence in making the switch."
