Katie Holmes & I recently met with Priti Patel, our local MP, here at Prime Appointments Recruitment Agency headquarters in Witham, to chat about the potential downsides of the proposed ‘’zero-hour contracts’’ in the upcoming ''Employment Rights Bill''. We discussed in detail how this could negatively impact the recruitment industry and Priti is suitably outraged, as how this is being considered as an option by the new government, as our industry it is a highly effective & proven method of recruitment. Temporary staff play a huge role in our business and across the recruitment sector, helping businesses manage fluctuations in demand, whether it’s covering holidays, sickness, or just extra workload. These flexible staffing solutions are crucial for keeping things running smoothly and are vital to the UK economy as a whole. Together, Priti & I have decided to push forward and challenge the current government on this issue. We’re getting valuable support from Neil Carberry, the CEO of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), who also has strong views on the matter. With his backing and expertise, we’re hoping to make sure the voices of those in the recruitment industry are heard loud and clear. We need to make sure our family business can still offer flexible staffing options to help our local clients manage short-term staffing needs. Right now, we employ over 300 temporary staff every week, all paid in line with PAYE regulations and compliance. These workers rely on us, and for some families, we’ve been providing work across generations. That’s why we’re one of the largest employers in the area and contribute significantly to local economy. Keeping this flexibility is crucial, not just for our business, but for the broader economy as well. Neil Carberry, Priti Patel, and I are coming together to take our campaign even further. Neil has made it clear, saying, "We will not stop fighting this until we know our message is fully understood and the full impact of this is taken on board, as in our opinion it does benefit both workers and business alike." He’s absolutely right – the recruitment industry employs 1.5 million temporary staff across the UK, and the country needs that flexibility more than ever. We’re committed to making sure this message is heard loud and clear. #zerohourcontracts #employmentrightsbill #legislation #Employmentlaw #familybusiness #Businesschanges #makeadifference #makingadifference #change #recruitment

Thanks Robyn Holmes! Looking forward to picking up on this. I gave some robust evidence on this to the Business Select Committee on Tuesday to get this point home. More pressingly, individual Recruitment & Employment Confederation picking up with their local MPs to back up the work our team are doing for you always helps. Our team can help with how to do it, and the Labour Government Hub has all the latest from us! Link in first comment.

Nearly half of all UK employers list statutory rights as benefits on their job adverts. According to Rippl, employers are touting statutory requirements or basic amenities as significant workplace benefits. They found that 46% of current vacancies listed a statutory right as a workplace benefit. The examples include: - “Company pension” (present in a staggering 124,589 current job ads), - “20 days’ holiday” (mentioned in just over 2,000 ads) - “Statutory sick pay” (253 mentions) The analysis also found that employers are promoting basic necessities (“free teas and coffees”, “free parking / onsite parking”, etc.) and other underwhelming treats as benefits. What is the worst “benefit” you have seen? #benefit #job #news #recruitment
