Helping Business Owners with Employee Relations Issues Assisting with Legal Compliance Employment law is a big part of everyday working life. In all honesty, this did scare the hell out of me in my early days but when you’re thrown into the fire in a huge organisation (with issues every day) as I was, you understand that you have to learn very quickly. The credit it has to be told lies with the help I received from of one the best employment lawyers around, and I learned a hell of a lot from him (and still do). In fact, I really grew into liking this element of HR as it was never dull. Ensuring that the business complies with employment law and regulations is a constant challenge for HR, especially when business owners are unaware of the complexities involved. Key employment law advice that business owners must always consider. #1. HR must continually educate and advice business owners on relevant employment laws particularly new law changes. #2. Implement compliant policies into the company handbook and communicate to all staff effectively. #3. Address any legal issues that arise in a through and efficient manner. #4. Pay particular attention to discriminatory laws to ensure that all employees are educated on the requirements and minimise and potential claims. #5. Statutory rights are also updated regularly therefore, keeping informed of such changes must be of paramount importance particularly for those in HR. This requires continuous monitoring of any regulatory changes, providing regular training, and managing documentation meticulously to protect the business from any potential legal disputes or claims that arise.
