Hydrogen BC member B.C. Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy (CICE) recently released a report on the potential for methane pyrolysis in BC. This report analyses opportunities in production and deployment of low carbon hydrogen in B.C. and beyond. It investigates the emerging ideas, approaches, and technologies being advanced in the sector, as well as the regulatory requirements, challenges, and considerations that need to be addressed to accelerate decarbonization. The report found that the flexibility of methane pyrolysis, in terms of scalability and location, makes it an effective decentralized, distributed low-cost, low-carbon hydrogen production pathway. On Monday, the #EUCOM published the long-awaited #hydrogen and decarbonised gas market package directives, which defines low-carbon gases, fuels, and importantly - low-carbon hydrogen - which will be a corner stone in the future commodity mix.    In the short term, low-carbon hydrogen is a more economic option to reduce carbon intensity compared to RFNBO. From an #industry perspective, although the price is (and probably will stay for the time being) higher than natural gas + ETS, it remains below that of RFNBO hydrogen.
