Understanding Hallucinations and Fabrications in LLMs 🤖💭 Inspired by 'LLMs Will Always Hallucinate, and We Need to Live With This' - Sourav Banerjee et al. Large Language Models (LLMs) are powerful tools, but they sometimes produce errors known as hallucinations or fabrications. These errors are not just occasional—they are inherent features of these systems. Therefore, we need to take the time to train people on how to use LLMs effectively to navigate their limitations and raise awareness. 💡 Hallucinations and Fabrications - Let's break down the difference: Hallucinations occur when LLMs provide inaccurate or incomplete information, usually based on existing knowledge but applied incorrectly. Examples include: 1. Factual Incorrectness: Providing incorrect facts—e.g., stating a blood sugar level is 150 mg/dL when it is actually 120 mg/dL. ⚠️ 2. Misinterpretation: - Corpus Misinterpretation: Misunderstanding the context or meaning within the data, leading to incorrect conclusions. ⚠️ - Prompt Misinterpretation: Misinterpreting a user's question due to ambiguity, such as confusing "lead" (the chemical element) with "lead" (leadership). ⚠️ 3. Needle in a Haystack: When LLMs struggle to find the correct details: - Missed Key Data Points: Leaving out crucial information, like only mentioning one cause of World War I. ⚠️ - Partial Incorrectness: Mixing correct and incorrect facts—e.g., stating Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1959 instead of 1969. ⚠️ Fabrications are different—they involve creating entirely false information with no basis in the training data. Examples include inventing a non-existent scientific study or making up a fake quote from a historical figure (this happens a lot!). ⚠️ Summary: Hallucinations and fabrications in LLMs can lead to issues such as misinformation, legal and ethical risks, erosion of trust, and amplification of biases. I am playing around with crewai's new Flows - pretty cool team of agents working together - advanced stuff. The flow is using the gpt-4o-mini model. It generated a plausible and convincing response on a fun fact about a city. However....I cross referenced the output.....in Claude 3.5 Sonnet (new update) and the internet...do you see the problem? The polished, fluent AI-generated content from newer models or agentic workflows can seem plausible but mask subtle inaccuracies or fabrications and are harder to detect compared to earlier models - the AI Trust Paradox/the Verisimilitude Paradox strikes again. This is a bit of Saturday fun... 1. Imagine that in business critical workflow or your corporate documentation? Legal documents, Medical information, Financial reports... 2. The biggest thing we can do is build awareness and accountability for users 3. There is great utility but training and education are key. Digital Human Assistants can help with User training Verification workflows Clear AI usage policies Understanding AI limitations and Risk Management Documentation of AI-generated content Regular fact-checking processes Paul Edginton Ricky Sydney Is it worth a meeting to safeguard your business? 2025 will see more AI. We might as well get used to it. As proposal pros we can fear the evolving technology or we can embrace it as a tool to up our game! Choosing to do the latter, I see AI as being a chance to optimize three areas: - Efficiency in systems and processes such as data summarization, RFP and requirement shredding, proofreading/editing, and compliance to name a few. - Time Savings in automation of tasks, quicker content starting points so we can focus on strategy and creating content specific for the client/project. - Cost Savings in streamlining processes and helping ease burnout of SME's and proposal pros reducing turnover. But there are many things that encompass our job that AI can't do such as: - Build relationships - See outside of the prompts fed to them - Critical thinking - Weigh how the selection committee feels Take some time in 2025 to find starting points where you can integrate AI to take some of the proposal workload off your shoulders and better optimize your response systems. Who knows your stress level in 2025 might be significantly less because of AI? #ProposalPro #AECMarketing #AIIntergration

As a Generative AI expert, I'm excited to share insights on how Foundation Models can help businesses better leverage AI. Foundation Models, such as GPT-3 and DALL-E, have revolutionized the field of AI by providing a robust and versatile foundation for a wide range of applications. These models have the ability to learn from vast datasets, capturing the underlying patterns and relationships that can be fine-tuned for specific tasks. By leveraging Foundation Models, businesses can unlock new possibilities in areas like natural language processing, image generation, and even multimodal understanding. One of the key advantages of Foundation Models is their ability to adapt to different domains and use cases. Rather than building custom AI models from scratch for each new application, businesses can leverage the pre-trained capabilities of Foundation Models and fine-tune them to their specific needs. This not only saves time and resources but also enables faster deployment and broader accessibility of AI-powered solutions. Moreover, Foundation Models can help businesses overcome the challenges of limited data and domain expertise. By leveraging the knowledge and capabilities encoded in these models, organizations can harness the power of AI even in scenarios where they may have limited in-house AI expertise or access to large datasets. As Generative AI continues to evolve, the potential impact of Foundation Models on businesses is undeniable. By embracing this technology, companies can stay ahead of the curve, enhance their decision-making, and deliver more personalized and intelligent experiences to their customers. #GenerativeAI #FoundationModels #AITransformation #AIInnovation #AIAdoption #DataDriven #AIStrategy #TechCouncil #AIExpertise #AICapabilities #AIOpportunities #AIImpact

AI is not just the future—it’s the present. In my experience, AI has already transformed how I work, enabling me to create better content, generate innovative ideas, and boost my overall efficiency. While I understand some concerns about AI's impact on jobs, I can confidently say that it has been a game-changer for productivity and creativity in my career. Tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Gamma are redefining workflows that once took hours, completing them in minutes. For instance, generating a PowerPoint presentation from simple text used to be a time-intensive process, but now it’s done in seconds. The possibilities AI brings to our profession are not just powerful—they're magical. My advice to instructional designers: Don’t shy away from AI. Embrace it. The future belongs to those who leverage these tools to their advantage. #InstructionalDesign #AIforLearning #WorkplaceEfficiency

The winning strategy, picked by humans, was that produced by an experienced instructional designer working with AI. 33% rated it as exceptional "Spectacular. Covers all of ways to learn and drive behaviour change." The power of human + AI collaboration is key to success but AI is still perceived as poor for some people (despite often being better than a novice) and AI augmentation provides positive efficiency and effectiveness gains for novices. Summary above from a fascinating series: https://lnkd.in/gKtJwFA3
