CLIMIT Summit 2025’s Post

What does it take to deliver large scale carbon removal projects today? Carbon removals was high on the agenda during CLIMIT Summit 2025 in Larvik this week. Contributing to the international knowledge sharing session in the main program, I was fortunate to be invited as a speaker and share some of the learnings we have had working with pioneers such as Heidelberg Materials, Hafslund Celsio, Ørsted, Twence and CO280. Significant CDR contracts have been announced in the carbon removals market, but very few projects are actually being built or have passed FID. This is why the learnings from projects such as the ongoing Ørsted Kalundborg Hub project, where SLB Capturi partnered with Microsoft, Ørsted and Northern Lights JV, are so important to share enabling more projects going forward. At SLB Capturi, the joint venture between Aker Carbon Capture and SLB, we are fortunate to have had people with us that have shown perseverance and grit with regards to getting the first of a kind projects delivered. The recognition that was showed to Heidelberg Materials Sement Norge’s Per Brevik and our own board member at Aker Carbon Capture ASA, Oscar Graff, during the CLIMIT Summit this year was well deserved as they have contributed significantly to founding this new industry.
