In two weeks time I will be speaking at the HFMA Conference covering: The importance of integrating data and operational functions. How data supports strategic estates planning and decision making. Why digital tools should be used within investment decision-making. The use of Digital Estates management is crucial to allow the NHS to fully understand not just an individual Trust estate but their wide ICB estates provision, condition and operation challenges. Please see our guide on Digital Estates Management for the NHS.
How easy is it for you to make quick and informed decisions on the future of your NHS estate? The NHS estate is a vital component for the delivery of healthcare services. Like many industries, it is constantly evolving, and this creates a challenge for key decision makers. Trying to incorporate all the new changes is not an easy feat. One solution to making this process easier is digitising your estate. This solution will enable decision-makers to determine the most beneficial options for their NHS estates assets. For more information on digitising your NHS estate, have a read of Provelio’s guide: Digital Estates Management for NHS Trusts. Within this guide, Paul Wilson explains the importance of digital technology within estates management, and it’s benefits to managing the NHS estate. ''Healthcare providers must accept risks to deliver complex services in line with their strategies, since being risk-free is not possible. Board-level strategic risks differ from operational or project risks, with an effective framework crucial to meeting public and government expectations. The assurance system must aim to reduce the likelihood of the most significant risks materialising and improve the organisation’s ability to contain resulting issues. Mobilising an EPR programme is a key moment in the transformation. EPR deployments often face delays and unplanned costs, but also influence service disruptions, so the organisation culture must cater for the linking of risks back to the driving strategy, goals and values from before the investment has gained approval.'' In his latest piece, Phill James, Managing Consultant at Apira, explores the high-stakes world of Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and why this journey is “a risky business without a Tom Cruise in sight.” As healthcare providers push for seamless digital transformations, Phill emphasises the critical need for robust planning, adaptability, and long-term strategy. We recently had the pleasure of speaking to Travis Messina, Senior Vice-President of National Real Estate Services at CommonSpirit Health, where he leads a team developing and operating an optimised healthcare real estate portfolio across the United States, that we are supporting. It was an interesting conversation and one that resonates here in the UK. How can healthcare providers best balance financial pressures with the aim of delivering consistent and excellent healthcare for the wellbeing of individuals and communities? This is a critical discussion our US team is having with CommonSpirit Health. To manage these challenges, CommonSpirit Health is focusing on careful stakeholder management and building its digital capabilities – while also calling for the sector to work together to provide a consistency and scale of work that will encourage the involvement of MMC manufacturers to boost the efficiency of construction in healthcare. The NHS, like CommonSpirit Health, faces similar challenges with an ageing infrastructure and the need to balance financial constraints with the delivery of high-quality care. By focusing on stakeholder management, digital transformation, and collaboration with MMC manufacturers, UK healthcare providers can also work towards creating more adaptable and cost-effective facilities to meet the evolving needs of patients. Well worth a read to consider how you treat risk management in an EPR deployment.
