Clamping Techniques in Lathe Machining: Ensuring Precision and Efficiency In lathe machining, proper workpiece clamping is crucial for achieving high-quality results and maintaining production efficiency. How you clamp the workpiece directly impacts both the accuracy of machining and overall productivity. One common method is "one clamp, one support"—where one end of the workpiece is secured by a three-jaw self-centering chuck, and the other end is supported by a tailstock center. This setup ensures that the workpiece remains stable during machining, especially when dealing with significant feed forces. To further prevent axial displacement, a limiting support can be added in the spindle's taper hole, or a step on the workpiece can be used as a stop. This clamping method is reliable, safe, and capable of withstanding large feed forces, making it widely used in the industry. Proper clamping is essential to achieving both precision and efficiency on the shop floor.
