Looking for that extra boost to grow your business? Internal comms could be the answer. 💡 I strongly believe that businesses underestimate the power of keeping everyone on board. Let me elaborate. Imagine this: every person on your team, from the front desk to the C-suite, totally in-the-know about your latest marketing campaign, big product launch, or new sales channel. This is what powerful internal comms can do. It’s like flipping a switch that gets everyone aligned, motivated, and ready to go all-in. 🚀 When we keep our people updated, it does more than just inform—it truly transforms! Here’s how it boosts our success: 1️⃣ Productivity Boost – Knowing the bigger picture helps people see how their role drives the company forward, so they’re excited to bring their best. 2️⃣ Stronger Connection – When people feel included, they’re happier and more engaged. Those “little updates” make a huge difference. 3️⃣ Natural Brand Ambassadors – When employees know the latest news, they share it proudly—both at work and beyond. As comms leaders, it’s our duty to encourage C-level to share these insights with us. Keeping our teams in the loop isn’t just nice to have—it’s how we build a culture of trust, purpose, and progress. 💪 So let’s make it happen! 🌱 #InternalComms #EmployeeEngagement #BusinessGrowth #Transparency #TeamPower

Here's the ONE thing that takes businesses from scattered communication to aligned engagement: a solid internal comms strategy. I've seen companies struggle with: ↳ Lack of clear objectives ↳ Inconsistent messaging ↳ Ineffective channels ↳ Disengaged employees The result? Confusion, frustration, and a whole lot of wasted effort. So, how do you avoid these pitfalls and create a strategy that actually works? Start with a deep dive into your current state. Audit existing channels, gather employee feedback, and identify gaps. Then, define your: ↳ Goals - what do you want to achieve? ↳ Audience - who are you trying to reach? ↳ Messaging - what do you need to communicate? ↳ Channels - how will you deliver your messages? ↳ Metrics - how will you measure success? Sounds simple enough, right? But the devil is in the details. Each step requires careful consideration and alignment with your unique culture. That's where expert guidance can make all the difference. My team has helped countless organisations navigate this complex process and emerge with strategies that drive real results. 𝟱 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 I often hear people say that change is the new constant. What does that mean for internal comms? I believe the tools we've traditionally reserved for change communications are becoming our daily bread and butter. Let's break this down: 🎧 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 No more occasional pulse checks. We need to have our ears to the ground 24/7. 🤝 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 It's not just for big projects anymore. Building and nurturing relationships is becoming our full-time gig. 🔄 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Forget rigid annual plans. Flexibility is the new stability in our communication strategies. 🎯 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 One-size-fits-all is out. Personalized, relevant communication for different audience segments is in. 🤝 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 It's no longer just about cascading messages. We're orchestrating a symphony of consistent voices across all leadership levels. Internal communication can help our organizations thrive in a state of constant change. To do that, we need to up our game. Are you seeing this shift in your organization? What is one skill that differentiates Chief Comms Officers from their C-suite peers? We are dot connectors. 🔗 We can connect the dots between seemingly disparate initiatives and messages. ↔️ We tend to have a wide-ranging remit that enables us to see across the organization. 🧩 Because storytelling is core to what we do, we can fit all the pieces of the puzzle together to tell one larger story. 💡We love digging into audience insights, which means we can tailor that story to different audiences. That’s true even with employee communications. 🎯We can channel what employees want to speak to their direct needs. We can also help build bridges to connect internal efforts while breaking down silos. ⁉️What do you think? Does this ring true for those of you who are communications professionals?

I just caught myself saying the phrase we dread in internal comms: “We’ll make it look pretty”. Ouch! It slipped out during a meeting about planning our company’s 50th anniversary, and I immediately cringed. Why? Because it plays right into the stereotype that employee communications are just about aesthetics - decorating emails, newsletters, or Viva Engage posts with shiny designs and clever phrasing. Btw, we know that’s what you think 🤔 But we know the truth: internal communications is so much more. We are strategists, aligning every message to business goals. We are planners, orchestrating campaigns that land with impact. We are counsellors, guiding leaders on how to engage authentically. We are crisis experts, ready to steer calm through chaos. We are human listening devices, attuned to the pulse of the organisation. We are people whisperers, helping to translate vision into connection. And we are change navigators, crafting communications that reduce friction and foster understanding. So why do we sometimes sell ourselves short? Why do we downplay our craft? As internal comms practitioners, it’s time to reclaim the narrative. Next time I’m tempted to say “make it look pretty,” I’ll remind myself of the strategic value we bring to the table - and how every message we create is about purpose, not just polish. Let’s rewrite the way we talk about what we do - one email, one conversation, one anniversary celebration at a time. #InternalCommunications #EmployeeComms #Leadership #StrategicCommunication *Cringe emoji pic credit: The New York Times

Aligning internal comms within an organisation is not always as easy as it may sound. There are many things to consider when starting to plan for it, and in our experience, there are certain hurdles that stand out the most that need to be overcome. 🏃♂️ Let's explore some of these common challenges: ➡ Lack of clarity around purpose, strategy, and values can create a serious disconnect. Without a clear "why" driving your organisation, employees may feel rudderless and struggle to align their efforts. ➡ Individual roles and organisational goals often wander down separate paths. When employees can't see how their day-to-day tasks contribute to the bigger picture, disengagement inevitably follows. ➡ Inconsistent or ineffective messaging is the stuff of internal comms nightmares! Mixed signals across channels can leave employees confused and undermine trust in leadership. Aligning your internal communications takes times and planning, but getting it right is key to an engaged, unified workforce pulling in the same direction. Looking for the right approach?
