Friendly reminder that meetings count as work! I know people will sometimes quip that they didn’t get any work done as they weee just in meetings all day, but those meeting are the work! If you have meetings that feel pointless, review them. Do you need to attend? Does the meeting need to be shorter? Does the meeting need a clearer agenda or structure? Does the meeting need someone to be in charge of keeping it on track? #meetings #neurodivergent

I advise all my clients to run shorter meetings because we are now in the Attention Scarcity Age, where everyone (including employees and managers) are overwhelmed, overworked, and have short attention spans. The productivity of longer meetings start to drop after 15 minutes, and participants will start to multitask and lose focus. The key to keeping meetings short is to: 1. Set a short, focused agenda. 2. Prior to the meeting, send out any background info so the participants are ready to hit the ground running. 3. During the meeting, ruthlessly focus on that agenda.

MEETINGS are the lifelline of all organizations . Getting pulled into meetings and the no. of meetings one attends almost tacitly conveys one’s importance in the Corporate Hierarchy. however , how many of us really look at the REAL COST OF MEETINGS or how PRODUCTIVE ARE SUCH MEETINGS ? unfortunately , there is no clear process for this , though Meetings probably consume the largest chunk of time in any organization. Following excerpts from the book REWORK highlights some valuable points : #meetings #productivity #realcostofmeetings #timemanagement

Anyone else find themselves in back-to-back-to-back meetings ad infinitum? I’m recalibrating my working hours to make work and life a bit more manageable (hidden disability anyone? 🙋🏻♀️) and one of my biggest challenges is creating space in my diary to get sh*t done but also for time to think. If we want to reduce the amount of time that we’re in meetings, that’s only possible if we make meetings themselves much more efficient. My top take away from this list is to define the purpose. If you’re in a meeting and you’re not entirely sure why, ask. If you don’t know what your role in the conversation is, ask. If you don’t know what the outcome is supposed to be, ask. Asking more questions makes us all more efficient.

Meetings must be reserved for the most important discussion points. Whatever else needs to be done to make meetings more fruitful should be done before the meeting through other media like emails/messages/virtual calls. I have observed that organizations waste unimaginable manhours in unnecessary meetings. Only if organizations work on some clear structuring of meetings, will meetings be successful leading to organizations achieving their objectives. How are you doing your meetings? Do you usually need meetings to decide the agenda of the next meeting? #meetings #productivity #leadershipcoach #mentorsmusings #CoachMJ

❌ Toxic meetings ❌ Think about your agenda and the number of meetings it contains. Perhaps some managers go to work only to hold successive meetings throughout the week. What are the characteristics of toxic meetings? ▪️ The results of the meetings are small compared to the duration of the meeting and the number of participants ▪️ Meetings require a lot of preparation, although most of the attendees have time to prepare ▪️ They include unclear agendas and go off track in most parts ▪️ They include one or more people who waste others' time through unimportant discussions or outside the framework of the agenda ▪️ Meetings multiply, meeting after meeting, then you enter a vicious circle
