🙌 Big Win! 🙌 I parked and charged my electric car for free today in downtown Oak Park! The Village of Oak Park has made EV adoption a priority, and their leadership has earned them recognition from ComEd and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus 👏 👏 👏 🤔 Why would a local government give away free energy? Simple: Cleaner air By investing ~30 cents in "free" electricity, the Village eliminated 9 kG of CO2 emissions while reducing ambient noise and particulate pollution. And since Illinois gets ~65% of its electricity from nuclear, solar, and wind, the energy powering my EV doesn't come from dirty, coal-fired power plants. 🌳 🍎 🥪 Is this what made my lunch in the park so pleasant? It's impossible to know for sure, but I say yes. Sources: https://lnkd.in/g-AbJXwj https://lnkd.in/gwRvxWWp

As temperatures climb on hot days, many of us are quick to crank up our fans or air conditioners. These cooling systems can be a major stress on electrical grids, which has inspired some inventors to create versions that can store energy as well as use it. Cooling represents 20% of global electricity demand in buildings, a share that’s expected to rise as the planet warms and more of the world turns to cooling technology. During peak demand hours, air conditioners can account for over half the total demand on the grid in some parts of the world today.

Solar thermal provides significant benefits and in this case, generating 70% of the facility's heat demand and saving 50% in overall energy costs.
In our newest case study, Solar Thermal at the Indianapolis International Airport, RTC Solutions Provider Solar UV Solutions helped the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) reduce #carbonemissions at its Consolidated Snow Removal and Equipment Storage facility at the Indianapolis International Airport through installation of 70 SunQuest 250 #solarthermal collectors on the roof. Between December 2021 and March 2022, the SunQuest 250 solar thermal collectors generated 70% of the facility’s heat demand. The solar thermal system has reduced the facility’s energy costs by over 50% and avoided 574 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The system also minimizes the IAA’s operating and maintenance costs due to reduced usage of the natural gas boilers and the solar thermal collectors not requiring any maintenance. Future maintenance can be performed by facility personnel using the basic training provided by Solar UV Solutions during installation. Building on this success, the IAA installed 10 additional SunQuest 250 solar thermal collectors for domestic hot water heating at an airport fire station and is currently installing 15 more collectors for radiant floor heating at the IAA’s new Airfield Deicing Materials Storage Building in 2024. Building a Resilient Power Grid for a Sustainable Future From 2013 to 2023, severe weather events caused the largest power outages in the U.S., affecting millions of customers. Hurricanes, winter storms, and wildfires have highlighted vulnerabilities in the aging grid infrastructure, with nearly two-thirds of U.S. transmission lines over 25 years old. These aging lines are more prone to failures, cyber-attacks, and can even trigger wildfires. As climate change intensifies these weather events, grid resiliency has become essential. METCO Engineering Inc. can play a crucial role in enhancing grid resilience by implementing advanced technologies such as microgrids, energy storage systems, and distributed generation (DG) solutions like solar PV and combined heat and power (CHP). These innovations help ensure reliable power during outages, reduce dependency on centralized grids, and make buildings capable of operating independently as resiliency hubs. The Future of Electric Vehicles Amidst Grid Challenges As we face yet another grid emergency with potential power cuts due to insufficient generation capacity, the spotlight turns not just on our immediate needs but also on the long-term sustainability of our energy systems. The recent crisis meeting attended by key industry leaders and Minister of Energy Simeon Brown underscores a critical challenge: balancing energy demand with sustainable supply, especially during peak times.Electric vehicles (EVs) are at the forefront of our transition to green technology. However, events like today's remind us that this transition is not without its hurdles. The call from authorities to limit the charging of electric vehicles during peak times illustrates a significant vulnerability in our current grid infrastructure. Read more here >>> https://lnkd.in/ekwhWY3H To support the widespread adoption of EVs, we must invest in robust grid enhancements and smart technology solutions that manage energy demand more efficiently. This includes advancements in battery storage, smart grids that can dynamically respond to fluctuations in demand and supply, and policies that encourage off-peak charging. As we navigate these challenges, the role of leadership in energy and transport sectors becomes increasingly crucial. We must drive the conversation on innovative solutions that ensure our energy infrastructure can sustain the growing demand from electric vehicles without compromising on reliability or environmental goals. Let’s commit to a future where our green initiatives are supported by an equally sustainable and resilient energy framework. Why go for less when you can have more? ☀️Glass thickness affects reliability and robustness of a panel. AIKO back contact panels/pv modules have 1) single glass has 3.2mm front glass; 2) our double glass panels are 2mm/2mm and comes with a fire class A rating. A trully purposeful feature. Would you still go for less like a 1.6mm glass? ☀️☀️☀️
Why Choose ABC Solar Modules? ABC modules feature 2mm + 2mm thicker glass for extra durability, making them stronger and more resistant to harsh conditions. Plus, they have an IEC Fire Class A rating for top-level fire safety! Key Benefits: - Stronger Glass: 2mm + 2mm for added protection. - Fire Safety: IEC Fire Class A certified. - Built to Last: Durable and weather-resistant. Choose ABC for safer, more reliable solar energy! #ABCModules #SolarPower #FireSafety #Durability #GreenEnergy #AIKOEnergy

Free to read FT articles that explain #climatetechnologies. This one for #heatpumps. Not all critical aspects of the industry dynamics are covered, but helpful overview of the technology and challenges to address to achieve deployment at scale. Will it #save the #planet? Not heat pumps alone, or any of these technologies. But, yes! Each of them will contribute towards #energytransition.

There are some good points raised in this Op-Ed piece. Time-of-use rates will be where many electric utilities move to in the near future, for which solar + battery storage provides the most value. U.S. electricity demand outpacing supply is a perennial issue. Build your own power plant via your home's roof or a ground mount application in your yard.
