Thousand Oaks-based Wayside Energy saw one of its first big wins as a startup on Dec. 12, after the company announced it was awarded a CalSeed Concept Award worth $200,000. EIT InnoEnergy helped raise €4.3 billion across 56 funding rounds for its cleantech start-ups and scale-ups in 2024. “Although global cleantech investment was projected at $2 trillion last year, this is only half of what’s needed to meet net-zero targets,” said Elena Bou, Co-Founder and Innovation Director at EIT InnoEnergy. “During what has been a dry year for the clean-tech industry, InnoEnergy has pushed forward, actively supporting our portfolio and derisking their business cases with the support of our shareholders and wider ecosystem. We need to support our cleantech champions and secure their scaling up so their solutions create positive environmental, economic and social impact.” InnoEnergy played an active role in supporting the clean-tech starts secure capital in 2024, with the investments spanning private and public sources. EIT InnoEnergy added 14 cleantech start-ups to its portfolio of over 200 companies during the year. Key investments included €1.5 million into French deeptech start-up Geolinks to advance carbon capture monitoring and the launch of Repono, which aims to deploy and operate 100 GWh of energy storage in Europe by 2030. InnoEnergy also strengthened its financial base, welcoming OMV, OMV Petrom, ACB Participaties BV, and Boryszew S.A. as new shareholders, which builds on a €140 million private placement completed in 2023. #cleanenergy

Swedish eFuel innovator Liquid Wind raised €44 million in Series C funding, with Uniper, Samsung Ventures, and HYCAP Fund I SCSp leading the round. The investment is the largest in Liquid Wind’s history and will support its efforts to scale production of eMethanol, a fossil-free maritime fuel to decarbonise global shipping. Hybird Energy, a Copenhagen-based startup developing intelligent electrical panels, today announced it has secured €2.4 million in new funding to tackle Europe’s energy crisis 🇩🇰 🚀 The round is co-led by BackingMinds, a Swedish early-stage venture capital firm, and Transition VC, a UK-based Climate VC, who are joined by existing investors 2degrees, a private investment company in Copenhagen and the family office for a Co-founder of Urban Partners and EIKON Capital. “With the proceeds from this round, we will accelerate our rollout and capture an underserved market with massive potential, commercially and help solve one of the biggest problems of our generation.
