“Micro-hospitals, if designed appropriately, accrue four strategic advantages to hospital sponsors: broaden market expansion, lessen capital risks, decrease operating costs and increase consumer appeal,” the Erdman report states. “They are designed and built to optimize patient experiences, maximize staff productivity and serve as a flexible footprint for additional services as demand warrants. While the regulatory climate for micro-hospitals is volatile, the sector is expected to grow as health systems deploy capital to micro-hospital projects. Therefore, micro-hospitals serve as a critical element of a hospital’s strategic plan for growth and scale.”

This is exactly what localization looks like. Working with the people to build an experience that’s inclusive of them - their cultures, needs, behaviors, etc. Localized designs like this ensure people feel catered to and considered. It improves their experience. And in the case of this hospital, even improves healthcare and saves the lives of Indigenous people who according to a study felt discriminated against at Canadian hospitals. This is exactly the kind of inclusive experiences we seek to empower through localization and inclusive research at DIAL Design. Well done to Cowichan District Hospital. #Localization #UserExperience

"Great facilities open avenues to better care. Well-designed and well-built hospitals enable clinicians to serve patients more efficiently, improving productivity, while also being able to offer cutting-edge treatments that underpin better patient care." "Hospitals are infamously complex structures. They generally take a decade or more to go from concept to operational use, cover a massive footprint, require engagement with vast numbers of stakeholders, face both national and local political scrutiny and require differing teams to work concurrently towards a shared goal." #construction In Building Magazine, Daniel Easthope, director for property, UK and Europe at Mace examines the pressures on health services, the need for an assessment of healthcare estates and buildings, how great facilities can lead to better care for patients and more. https://lnkd.in/dW4EJga6

Scaling Up Primary Care: A Vision for the Future Ben Gowland’s latest blog insightfully captures the pressing challenge in primary care—how to scale up effectively in response to shifting demands. His argument is clear: individual practices cannot tackle this alone. Instead, success lies in collaboration, leveraging PCN resources, and building the infrastructure necessary for sustainability. At Scale embodies this very principle. Our work focuses on ensuring that at-scale solutions become an integral part of practice business models, rather than an external add-on. Ben rightly highlights that federations and PCNs must work in synergy with practices rather than in isolation. Only then can general practice harness the opportunities presented by the shift from hospital-based care to community settings. The threat to traditional models is real, but so is the opportunity. With the right infrastructure in place, primary care can evolve, thrive, and take control of its future. Now is the time to act. Get in touch.

GPs and the rest of the general practice workforce are working in buildings that are often too cramped, too old and too inflexible for a modern health service – with a quarter of GPs’ buildings built before the NHS was founded. But what should the next government do to deliver a general practice estate that is fit for purpose? Our latest report with Assura plc sets out a number of recommendations, drawing on roundtables with senior representatives from central government, the NHS, the private sector and elsewhere. 📖 Read the full report https://lnkd.in/e3my5qZx #generalpractice #ukgovernment #publicservices #nhs #health #doctors
