Here we are Monday afternoon, another council meeting. You know, it's, it's the first meeting of March. And I'm thinking where did January and February go? It's like this year just flying by. But that's OK because we're making good things happening. So, you know, for those of you who are going to be watching tonight, some good things happening right off the bat, we're going to recognize one of our employees and it's a surprise, but one of our employees is going to be recognized as being the employee of the year for 2024. Now this, these are always fun to do. And it's always nice to know that your work is your hard work and your your dedication is being recognized. And so we have so many employees in this city who day in and day out just dedicate their lives to serving you, the residents of our city. So it's really nice to recognize those who who really excel. We're also going to recognize the Fort Myers Housing Authority. We have been in partnership with the Housing Authority for 65 years. And for those of you who may not be aware of what the Housing Authority actually. Does it it helps to provide housing for the lower income residents of the city. They do it through Section 8 vouchers. They do it from public housing complexes. As you may know, we recently demolished the software village on Edison Ave. Edison and Ford, and it's going to be redeveloped as mixed used income. The project that's going up where Algom and Pontiac used to be on U.S. 41 next to McDonald's, that's another Housing Authority project. They have several. Projects to increase the amount of housing for those in that lower income bracket. Finally, big item here is the news press site. You've heard us talk about it. We purchased it. It was I think somewhere around 12 acres. We purchased it for just under somewhere around $9 million, while we're going to sell 9 acres of that 12 for 11. Little over $11 million, but we're talking about hundreds of millions of dollars worth of development on this site. We're talking a grocery store, office space. We're we're hoping that maybe even tying FGCU in with with a, a presence there residential unit, retail restaurants. And why, why is this so important? Because this is at a major intersection.
