The FDA will no longer allow for the use of FD&C Red No. 3 in food and ingested drugs. On January 15, 2025, the FDA issued an order to revoke these authorizations. Manufacturers who use FD&C Red No. 3 in food and ingested drugs will have until January 15, 2027 or January 18, 2028, respectively, to reformulate their products. Consumers could see FD&C Red No. 3 as an ingredient in a food or drug product on the market past the effective date in the order if that product was manufactured before the effective date. 🚨 This week's cosmetic product recalls in the EU (week 2)🚨 All cosmetic products should be safe for consumer health. But sometimes, a defective product enters the EU market. To catch faulty products, the EU has implemented a rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products known as SafetyGate, previously called the “Rapid Exchange of Information System” (RAPEX). This week 62 cosmetic products got recalled and all products contained Lilial (BMHCA) and/or HICC (Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde), which are prohibited fragrance substances. The Department of Trade and Industry suspended 14 vape manufacturers and importers, citing violations of Republic Act No. 11900 or the Vaporized Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Products Regulation Act. The companies failed to meet the #packaging requirements, including inclusion of graphic health warnings. In a circular issued by it, the General Authority for Food and Drugs decided to amend and add materials to the list of restricted materials in cosmetic products and to ban the import and manufacture of products that violate this circular starting from 12/1/2026 AD. The Authority indicated that products circulating in the markets are given a grace period to correct their conditions until 12/1/2028 AD, stressing that after this date, products that do not comply with this circular will be considered in violation, and will be dealt with in accordance with the Cosmetic Products System and its executive regulations. Mark the date: from today, vapes can only be obtained with a prescription from a pharmacy. In reality, this is what it was supposed to be before the market was flooded with disposable vapes and endless vape shops. Then, from October 1st this year, if you're over 18, you won't need to have a prescription to obtain your vape, but it will be in plain packaging and only available in mint, menthol or tobacco flavours. Closing all of the vape shops and requiring transparency into what is supplied and sold through pharmacies now creates an opportunity to introduce a #productstewardship or #EPR scheme for these legitimate units. Unfortunately, the black market will still persist, so we need action on disposal of all vapes. #vaping #pharmacy #medication #disposal
