Vendor lock-in in cloud computing is a big concern because it limits flexibility and raises costs when companies rely too much on one provider. Governments are starting to look at regulations to protect fair competition, with Google and Microsoft recently clashing over cloud practices. For businesses, understanding these risks and exploring options like multi-cloud strategies and open standards can help them stay agile and avoid being trapped in restrictive cloud contracts. Balancing government regulation and tech growth is key. Some rules can protect fairness, but too many could slow down innovation. Businesses should focus on smart cloud planning—reviewing contracts, staying informed, and supporting fair policies that allow for competition. This way, they can keep their options open and avoid getting stuck with one provider. #CloudComputing #VendorLockIn #TechRegulation #EnterpriseIT Follow me for regular updates! Upgrading local government contact centres to the cloud is a tempting proposition. Faster response times, happier citizens, and a more efficient use of resources. But before you jump in head first, let's acknowledge the potential roadblocks. The biggest challenge? Those intricate and often outdated on-premise IT systems. Deciding what to migrate, what to replace, and how to navigate the whole process seamlessly can feel like untangling a giant web. On top of that, resistance from staff who are comfortable with the old ways of doing things, along with budgetary constraints, can create bottlenecks and slow down progress. These challenges shouldn't deter you completely, but it's important to be aware of them before embarking on your cloud journey. What are your biggest concerns about migrating local government contact centres to the cloud? #PremierContactPoint #LocalGovernment #ContactCentre

Have we not heard more about SLMs because it's not an area the hyperscalers dominate? From an infrastructure perspective, It's the complete opposite of LLMs. You don't need power-hungry data centers with massive capacity to run SLMs. Hyperscalers approach the cloud from the inside out instead of the outside in. SLMs run on edge devices. This seems like a massive opportunity for companies like Akamai and Cloudflare to complement and extend legacy centralized data centers for workloads, including SLMs.
