You need to have this MINDSET in everything you do‼️‼️ There is a book I read that changed a lot of what we do at our company That book is called 212 degrees. In essence, what the book is about, is that water does not boil at 211 degrees 🚫 But just with 1 extra degree of heat, water begins to boil 🥵💧 And it’s about putting that extra 1 degree of effort in everything you do 📈 By doing this, you will create RAVING FANS and people will notice your attention to detail on everything 🗣️ Everything our team does, we do with this mindset. We give that extra degree of effort. If you do this in anything YOU do and make it a habit, you’ll be much farther ahead of anyone else in your field as time goes by and compounds. Not a very flattering photo and yet taking a photo of being ‘out on a limb’ is quite difficult and that’s because once we’re out on the limb it’s hard to stay there – i.e. there is no going back otherwise we wouldn’t be using the idiom. Which is the biggest insight shared in chapter 11 of my book, Can’t see the wood for the trees – landscaping your life to get back on track. That is that when we feel like we’re out on a limb we need to keep moving forward – i.e. find a safe way to get from limb to ground because we have already gone past the point of no return. I wonder how this insight is helpful for a situation you feel like you’re out on a limb about? For the first two weeks in September, I’m celebrating the sixth anniversary since my book was first published. If you’d like to find out more about the book and the Landscaping Your Life process shared within it do have a look at previous posts from days 1 to day 10 using #seethewoodforthetrees. See you tomorrow for the next idiom and chapter 12 ‘treading water’. #landscapingyourlife #backontrack #problemsolving #personalgrowth

When I commissioned my friend to paint this picture covering many of the idioms in my book, Can’t see the wood for the trees – landscaping your life to get back on track, I was surprised with some of the elements she chose not least the image for chapter 9 ‘Like a fish out of water’. Surprised because for me when we’re feeling like a fish out of water, I imagine floundering on the side of the water somewhere. In the picture, the fish is jumping and will very soon return to the safety of the water. A great reminder that if you’re feeling like a fish out of water you may just need a little more time until you’re back to the safety of what you know. Have a look for yourself – can you see how each of the following idioms has been depicted and what insight do you get as you consider the difference between your assumption and the depiction? - Stuck in a rut - Can’t see the wood for the trees - Up the creek without a paddle - Like a fish out of water - Out on a limb - Treading water - Going round in circles For the first two weeks in September, I’m celebrating the sixth anniversary since my book was first published. Both yesterday’s and today’s images over on my own profile demonstrate how far I’ll go on taking unflattering quirky images to make a point to help others see situations they’re grappling with from a different perspective. Not least because if you resonate with the idiom (feeling like you’re out on a limb ( today’s post) and with your head in the sand yesterday (yesterday’s)) a little laughter may be all that’s needed to open the door in your mind to new insight. It’s why laughter features in much of my coaching, facilitation and writing and is why Absurdity and laughter is one of the of the nine elements of my LANDSCaPE personal growth toolkit (with the first A representing Analogy and metaphor). Book Recommendation Alert! If you like stories of business, badassery, adventure, survival, or history you will dig this book. The author, Peter Stark, went to Dartmouth, which is cool for my homies from the Upper Valley. And he drops knowledge of the epic John Ledyard. (You know, the bridge guy.) Stark is also originally from Wisconsin and got his Masters in Journalism from the same University of Wisconsin-Madison program I was schooled in. And for all my friends in the Pacific Northwest, you've got to hear this story. And if none of that interests you, the book is also a New York Times Bestseller. #astoria #peterstark #book #bookreview

A bit of pure, solid gold from James Allen's 'As a Man Thinketh' for some Monday morning musings. "Your mind is like a garden. Plant good seeds. Water with consistency. Believe and act positively. And reap the benefits over time" "You and I are in charge of the gardens we're building. You and I are the master gardeners of our minds, and so it's our job. It's our duty. It's our opportunity to pull the weeds and plant good seeds". Rich Evans first introduced me to this 45-minute power-thinking of an audiobook/essay, and I've listened to it multiple times since. It can sound super cliche, but it's true - those who can control the mind and self-image and remove destructive internal thoughts will go further, almost regardless of talent. It's like that classic - 'someone with 10x less talent is 10x further ahead than you, because they believe in their success' etc. Don't get me wrong; the deep thinking has to lead to consistent hard work at things that you often don't want to do. And without that action, the deep thinking is futile. But without the deep thinking, often action is never more than a mere pipedream. Link in comments!
