There's only one controllable cost in real estate: Energy. And most buildings are wasting a ton of money on energy -and making their residents less safe and comfortable! Because their technology is incredibly antiquated. Daisy is consistently on the cutting edge of bringing technology to the buildings they manage, helping their clients save money and the tenants live more comfortably. I got the chance to speak with Daisy co-founder and CEO Yotam Cohen about the million dollar heating problem that many are facing (and how we are helping their buildings fix it) Watch the conversation here: https://lnkd.in/ePw6Dgi4

Dozens of Vancouver construction industry leaders have sent a letter calling on city council to reverse its plan to start allowing natural gas heating in new buildings, reported The Vancouver Sun. "The builders are responding to Vancouver council’s surprise decision in July to direct staff to amend city bylaws to enable natural gas for heating and hot water in new construction, reversing a policy approved in 2020 by the previous council with the aim of reducing carbon pollution. During the recent meeting, the ABC council members who supported the policy reversal said it was intended to speed up housing construction and improve affordability." https://lnkd.in/gW52gCk7 #vancouver #construction #policy #carbonemissions #naturalgas

📣 Do you work in a local or combined authority with a shared infrastructure project or decarbonisation plan underway? If so, Nesta is keen to work with you to help capture potential learnings or offer support on how to put your plan into action. We know that relying on individual homeowners to switch to low-carbon heating may not get us to net zero quickly enough. Our clean heat neighbourhoods work is focused on how to coordinate the switch to low-carbon heating - which has the potential to play a big part in the UK's plan to cut emissions from heating. 📋 We have published a call for collaboration on the zoning and planning area of focus: ➡️ We're looking to prototype how to map local areas at a granular building-by-building level to determine the most appropriate heat solutions and establish zoning as a tool for action. ➡️ We want to test whether local heat zoning would support the development of clean heat scheme design. "The staff report recommends builders and developers be given the option between two “compliance paths” when building new homes. Those paths are: • To build to a high level of the Zero Carbon Step Code (ZCSC), which generally does not allow gas for space heating and water heating. • Or to build to the highest step of the Energy Step Code (ESC), which achieves a higher level of energy efficiency through building envelope requirements but allows gas to be used for space heating and hot water. Both paths allow the use of gas for cooking".

Check out this coverage of the $10 million Empire Technology Prize by Facilities Dive's Nish Amarnath! ICYMI: AtmosZero was named a finalist in the competition for low-carbon heating system retrofits in tall commercial and multifamily buildings. It aims to match finalists with leading New York-based real estate portfolio owners to discuss pilot and demonstration opportunities. 🏢 Our Boiler 2.0 is a modular electrified boiler — a drop-in steam-generating heat pump that can directly replace fossil fuel boilers. It is based on heat pump technology that creates more than two units of heat output for one unit of electricity consumed. Boiler 2.0 is perfect for decarbonizing buildings that are already using steam. ⚡️ Reach out and read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3WETFMN Are you an engineering firm or building owner looking to learn how we can help you decarbonize in compliance with the NY Local Law 97?
