When Piyush Gupta joined DBS Bank in late 2009, I was the head of Group Audit. I read in some reports then that his Chinese name was translated as 古普塔 (ancient tower). While it sounded like Gupta, I decided to give him an "audit recommendation" (😂) - change to a name that inspires us as our CEO. So after some discussions with colleagues from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mainland China, we decided to offer him this name 高博德 (pronounced as Gao Bo De): 高 瞻远瞩 博 大精深 德 才兼备 Which means: Standing tall and looking far with a vision A man with breadth and depth of knowledge As well as virtues and talents I'm really glad that he is exactly the kind of person that his Chinese name says it. And some times, visitors from North Asia would address him as 高总裁 (CEO Gao) ☺️. May Piyush continue to create further impact to our community beyond banking post his retirement from DBS. 高博德 先生： 感恩有您。珍重再见。 林鑫川 敬上 Sincerely, Lim Him Chuan
