#Traditional_costing methods are not always accurate, particularly in industries with a lot of indirect costs. #Activity_based_costing is a modern approach that is seen as providing more accurate and reliable information. Some #airlines have already adopted this method, and it's now being suggested that #airports do the same to benefit in areas such as pricing, budgeting, and performance evaluation.

Amid all the talk about supply chain woes, here's some positive news: Unum has the capacity to deliver premium aircraft seating solutions, now! 💺 It’s been well documented that capacity in the sector is now at a breaking point. Seat industry consolidation, coupled with major cabin upgrade programmes amongst the biggest airlines, mean that operators with smaller fleets get ignored. The solution? The industry must expand and adopt local and agile supply chains, and make the most of the high-tech manufacturing ecosystems. Smaller suppliers can pivot quicker to short notice requests or smaller requirements without skipping a beat. Sound familiar? Our CEO, Chris Brady discusses the challenges sitting within the current supply chain battlefield in the latest Inflight issue. In the complex world of airline operations, fuel and labor stand out as the most substantial expenses. Fuel costs, which can vary between 20% and 30% of total operating expenses, are subject to fluctuations in global oil prices, making them a critical factor in financial planning. Labor costs, encompassing salaries for pilots, cabin crew, and ground personnel, account for approximately 32.3% of total expenses, underscoring the importance of human resources in the aviation industry. Beyond fuel and labor, airlines incur significant costs in maintenance, airport fees, and administrative operations. Maintenance ensures aircraft safety and reliability, while airport fees cover services such as landing rights and terminal usage. Administrative expenses include marketing, IT services, and management salaries. Understanding the distribution of these costs is essential for airlines aiming to optimize operations and maintain profitability in a highly competitive market. It's time to return to our RM Tree to look at the next set of KPIs! A healthy tree begins with strong roots. These roots represent the Flight and Operational performance KPIs that support an airline’s growth and profitability, just as much as the trunk, branches, and canopy do. Flight performance KPIs can be divided into two key categories: Spill KPIs and Spoil KPIs Spill KPIs include: 📊 Percentage of flights with no available seats before departure (S2S %) 🗓 Number of days a flight was closed before departure (S2S anticipation) 📆 How many days the flight was sold out (S2S duration) Spoil KPIs focus on: 🚫 No-show rates 📈 Overbooking percentage Beyond these, there are other essential KPIs to monitor, such as schedule stability to gauge operational performance and metrics that provide insights into the airline’s competitive position. Flight and operational performance metrics are vital for identifying areas of improvement, reducing revenue leakage, and moving beyond the endless debate between Yield and Load Factor (LF) as the primary driver of TRASK. By growing and maintaining healthy roots, we ensure a stronger tree, allowing the canopy—the airline’s TRASK—to flourish and reach new heights. #RM #revenuemanagement #airlineRM #airlinerevenuemanagement #aviation #avgeeks #airlinesandairplanes #KPIs #growth #RMKPIs #airlinekpis

Hourly charter rates rose by 4.5% in November, showing strong demand as the market adjusts post-holiday. Operators are adapting to client needs, while the FAA's push for tighter safety standards could shake up the U.S. charter industry, especially for smaller carriers. Flexibility remains key as we move forward in this dynamic sector!

This map illustrates the importance of the partnership between states, #Amtrak, the Class I Railroads, and the #FRA in the planning, development, implementation, and funding of our inter-city passenger rail network. These state-supported inter-city corridors are an essential element of the national transportation network. Imagine this map without the red lines and you can instantly see the voids and missing links between the major metros and smaller communities. These state-supported inter-city passenger corridors not only serve as extensions to Amtrak long-distance and regional services, they also provide critical connections, additional capacity to the transportation network, and system redundancy. Another consideration is the additional frequencies that are provided by these state-supported services that improve convenience for travelers.

Is this what Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) - O'Hare & Midway International Airports has to look forward to at O'Hare? A $2.1 billion overhaul inside Denver International Airport - City & County of Denver Dept of Aviation is boosting its #capacity to handle record numbers of passengers; yet, there is no plan outside to efficiently move all those passengers on the already congested and only route to/from the airport. Federal Aviation Administration prohibits the use of #airport revenue for non-aeronautical use and Colorado Department of Transportation is steering clear. The primary #economic engine for the state, generating more than $33.5 billion of revenue for the region annually, home to more than 1,200 individual companies, 23 airlines, more than 900 contractors/tenants/vendors, and 15 federal agencies, and provider of more than 40,000 on-airport #jobs and a total of 260,000 direct and indirect jobs to the region, is left to pursue grants and alternate #funding on its own. How do elected officials, transportation leaders, and advocates not see this #transportation project as the highest priority for the region?
