In recent years, communication through apps has exploded. I would say that everyone nowadays has a messaging app that isn't the standard issue one that comes on their phone. However, with these apps, (such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.) there are some concerns, such as data breaches, user tracking and metadata collection...or even internet access. Berty however, is different. Berty doesn't require any special information to use. It doesn't require a number, SIM card, ID, or network connection. On top of that the app is secure by design, giving you peace of mind in terms of application security. Lastly, it is open source, and all the code can be audited or contributed to. This app could be a great value add for security professionals as a secondary means of communication during a breach. Check them out:

Don't use these VPNs. 4 apps that aren't all they seem to be. There are a lot of VPNs on the market nowadays, and while it's nice to be spoiled for choice, there are services out there that don't prioritize your privacy as they should. Instead, they'll keep logs of your personal information to sell for a profit, inundate you with ads, or promise rock-solid security while providing absolutely none. https://lnkd.in/guqKhFhX

Bubble Security Tip Tuesday! Do this 😆 By default as you add new datatypes to your app they are set to publicly visible by selecting this it enables an auto privacy rule which is a good start. 🚨 Be careful as most of the time you need the data to reach further in your app than just the creator.

The Google Play Protect enhanced fraud protection security feature has completed its 100% rollout to all Android devices registered with the Singapore Google Play Store! 🛡 The security feature, which CSA partnered with Google on, blocks the installation of potentially-risky sideloaded apps, and was progressively rolled out from early-2024 in a pilot. Since then, over 11,000 unique potentially-risky apps (including those impersonating popular messaging and e-commerce apps), as well as close to 900,000 installation attempts of high-risk apps (such as apps that request sensitive runtime permissions), have been blocked. Minister of State for the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, Ms Rahayu Mahzam, shared the results of the pilot at the Safer With Google event today, and reaffirmed CSA’s commitment to collaborating with industry partners to develop innovative solutions to combat scams. When downloading a new app, STOP before you automatically allow access to your contacts, photos, location, or other private data. Take a minute to consider: ✋ Is the app reputable and from a trusted developer? ✋ Is access to your personal info actually necessary for the app's main purpose? Or is it just to collect more data about you? Don't blindly grant permissions just to start using an app. Be selective about what information you share. Your privacy and security should come first. Take those extra few seconds to review the app's privacy practices before tapping 'allow'. It could make a big difference in protecting your personal data.

Are you amazed by the TikTok spectacle? If a free app, easily downloadable to any smartphone, is seen as a major national security threat, then it shouldn't be so readily available. The fact is, these apps collect far more data than they need to function, and users have virtually no control over how their personal information is used or shared. This isn’t unique to TikTok or to social media apps. If we’re serious about safeguarding privacy and national security, the focus shouldn’t just be on banning or regulating one app. Instead, we should demand stronger data protection laws.

Send Messages, Not Metadata Your correspondence can be read in almost all messengers. The exception is Telegram, but it is not completely anonymous - it requires you to enter your phone number to register. If it comes up, you will be easily identified. Session https://lnkd.in/eTmj-n-A is an end-to-end encrypted messenger that minimises sensitive metadata, designed and built for people who want absolute privacy and freedom from any form of surveillance. It does not ask for an email or 📱 number when you register, but assigns you an ID - a set of hundreds of characters. It looks like a long nickname that you can share with your interlocutor to start a chat. The app looks like a normal messenger - you can send documents, voice messages, there are groups, but it's completely anonymous. The company has no servers, the routing goes through users - it means that leaks of personal data are simply impossible. Available on iPhone, Android and PC. Use it! #redfishiaven #security #messengers
