If there is no internet in the aeroplane, then how does the payment happen with the POS machine? Let’s understand this. The process is quite similar to using a POS in the ordinary circumstances, but with the slight adaptations for the inflight environment. After entering PIN or tapping to authenticate the payment, the payment usually gets done right? But in this case it gets saved and transaction remains pending and is completed later when the plane connects to a network. The POS machine synchronises with the payment gateway or bank, and then the transactions are authorised and processed. If a card is declined during settlement, airlines often have procedures to follow up with the passengers later.
