The AAMC reports that 60% of Psychiatrists are 55 or older. But, 46% are 65 or older and still practicing. Psychiatrists aren't always the retiring type. This shows itself in different ways: capping census, reducing hours worked, working, but less reliable to be able to schedule. This makes it tough on administration to plan for. 2 common examples: 1. Administration on a Behavioral Health Unit has a small team and all Psychiatrists are in their 80s. Between Medical Leave & lack of hours worked, having to fill schedules became a daily challenge. How can they get more consistency in staffing? 2. Rural Psychiatric Hospital. Hasn't been able to recruit a new psychiatrist in years. More than half of their workforce is at retirement age. Administration needs to supplement the current workforce, but how? Check out below for solutions:
See how Access TeleCare worked with one behavioral health hospital not just preserve care but augment availability after its on-site psychiatrist retired. Read the case study at https://lnkd.in/gXrxSyKm

Psychiatrist shortages and rising demand make meeting community behavioral health needs more difficult than ever. Telemedicine eliminates geographic barriers to access and equips medical groups, primary care practices, and outpatient groups with access to behavioral health experts who can boost behavioral health capacity or become your behavioral health department entirely.
