Another confession from me. I suffer with overthinking. I like to use the term percolate, but in reality, it's just another word for overthinking. It costs me my sleep and my well-being. I am learning how to deal with this, and I am getting much better at it, but it did get me thinking about how many sellers are in the same boat. So, I did some research! Did you know that sales professionals who maintain an optimistic mindset sell 37% more than our pessimistic colleagues? Yet many of us fall into the overthinking trap, which can devastate our performance. Here's what overthinking is costing you: Lost Productivity When you spend days obsessing over a single opportunity, you're not just wasting time - you're actively sabotaging your success. Your mental energy gets drained, and your sales motivation plummets. Decreased Performance According to an SFDC report, 70% of sellers struggle with mental health (you read that right!), and overthinking is a major contributor. The more we ruminate (or percolate), the more likely we are to: • Second-guess every decision • Create unnecessarily complex strategies • Miss opportunities while stuck in analysis paralysis[1] The Solution? Here's what I am trying to do. Focus on what you can control. Make a daily list of revenue-generating activities and take them one at a time. Remember this simple truth: complexity is the death of sales success. If you can't explain your sales strategy in 30 seconds or less, you're overthinking it. Keep it simple, focus on solving customer pain points, and take action rather than getting lost in endless analysis. I also eat a lot of snacks! Do you overthink? How do you overcome it? #SalesTraining #InfiniteSelling #MentalHealth #Overthinking #MentorGroup Image credit: amirlopez.com

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀! 😮 Burnout has become a buzzword, but it is worth talking about 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 in startup sales teams... …because it is easy to lose sight of your most important resource – your people – amongst the KPIs, quotas, systems and numbers 🤯 Don't get me wrong; all that ‘stuff’ is important and a key part of my coaching and Head of Growth support. BUT it is pretty useless if you have high churn and a stressed, tired, under-performing team 😪 What you need to remember, founder, is that yes your clients are buying into your incredible product / service BUT ‘𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘶𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦’ so they are really buying into you and / or your sales team. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦. 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁-𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘀? - Over-hammering KPIs - Doom fatigue - Over working - Micro-Managing - Lack of autonomy - Only focusing on the numbers - Rigid office hours - Lack of team focus - Lack of ‘coachy’ management approach The main theme? 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙣 ‘𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚’…I will explain. There is always the temptation in sales to just do ‘more’ and keep crunching up those numbers, without reviewing what really is and isn’t working. Of course high volumes of leads, conversations etc are important BUT only if they are the 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. Always focusing on quality over quantity risks tiring out the team and skipping over key problems. Treat sales problems as if you were an 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁, not a drill sergeant 👀 Don’t get me wrong, if individuals consistently under-deliver versus the rest of the team, that is a them problem. If the whole team is struggling? 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮… Time to get honest with yourself and delve under the bonnet ;) ..... Want some support with this? Lucky for you this is 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗲𝗮- let’s chat! 🤙🏽 Oh and a casual reminder I have two FREE events coming up next week - details in the comments!

In case you needed the reminder - It's ok to take a break ✋ When things in your personal life become hectic, or your attention is needed elsewhere, it's ok to take a break from your marketing. Trying to juggle everything will inevitably lead to burnout. If you're team is so focused on achieving their monthly sales figures, it's your job to reintroduce the concept of balance, rest and recovery. Remember this: Rest IS productive ❤️ Is "rest" part of your team's vocabulary? Are you prioritising it yourself? Sometimes, we overwork ourselves simply because we lack a clear strategy. I can help with that - shall we have a chat? #Sales #Strategy #Burnout

4moGreat post, James - this is definitely something a lot of us deal with in all aspects of our lives. Overthinking can be paralyzing and debilitating - it’s an endless cycle especially when you start overthinking about how much you overthink 😆 Your solution is exactly right. Focus on what’s within your control. Break down the mountain and you’ll find it’s only rocks 🤷🏻♀️ Your goal is to provide your customers with solutions, not add to the pain!
