Take the time to read Baringa and Nesta's report on the role of the state in the GB energy market if you are curious to understand: what role should the state play to decarbonise the GB energy market? How does GB Energy fit into this?

Many of the challenges and proposed measures identified in the British study are also applicable to the German situation. Both countries have ambitious decarbonization goals and face similar structural and economic challenges. Germany could benefit from a stronger role of the state in planning, development, and investment, similar to the suggestions made for Great Britain in the study. It would be beneficial to analyze specific aspects of the proposed measures and examine how they could be integrated into the German context. In my opinion, Germany could also benefit from centralized strategic planning and optimization. Pre-development of major projects by the German state could similarly accelerate the planning and approval process. I am open to other opinions on this matter.
