Should the UK do more to recognise the achievements of Octopus Energy founder Greg Jackson and celebrate him as a national hero? According to advertising veteran Rory Sutherland, it's "tragic" that the UK doesn’t “make more heroes of our really innovative business successes” in the way the USA does. Speaking on an up-coming episode of City AM‘s Boardroom Uncovered podcast, Sutherland praised the billionaire for his ability to rethink the industry in which Octopus Energy operates. Octopus Energy recently became the largest energy supplier in the UK, serves 7.3m households and is valued at more than £7bn. Read the full story here - https://lnkd.in/eWgem323
100%! Having had a lot of interactions with Greg Jackson in the early days of founding ClickMechanic the thing I love about him the most is that he's very humble and down to earth while clearly being super talented. No big ego just a love for solving problems and building great businesses (which in Octopus Energy case is a monster of a success story for the UK!!) So in summary. Yes we should absolutely be doing more celebrate stories such as this! 🚀
His work, ethos and drive sometimes seem like a hidden secret to me - Greg Jackson’s work is immense and should be recognised as such. In a world where big business often shuns the consumer AND long term planning in the rush for short term profit; his approach is refreshing, of our times and world class - there should be a lot more hype around Octopus, Kraken and Greg and his team
We should celebrate him by listening to his wisdom and suggestions about the UK Energy industry, unlike the legacy suppliers who seek to block him at every opportunity
Great to see Greg Jackson, demystifying energy and challenging the status quo in relation to zonal pricing is a great next step!
100% agree with celebrating what the private sector can achieve, especially right now. Been with Octopus for years - brilliant company
I agree!!
We should celebrate not just the achievements of Greg and others like him (I'd add @juliet davenport to the list) but the manner in which they created that success. We hear so much about narcissists and bigots who use cruelty, deception, manupulation and rule-bending to build their achievements. We need to celebrate far more the ones - like Greg - who win without losing their compassion and belief in doing good things for good reasons.
Yes. Along with Martin Lewis!
I think Greg is charismatic, fearless and visionary. He wants to change the way wholesale energy is bought and sold here in the UK and if he manages it it will mean even lower bills.
