Hello to my amazing network!  Like many, I was recently affected by a layoff and I am on the hunt for a place to start the next chapter of my journey.  Many of you know that I am very passionate when it comes to helping others achieve success and while the news of a layoff is never stress-free, the idea of finding my next role has certainly re-energized that passion and drive for me!  And I am excited to find the right spot where I can share that energy!  With that, I wanted to share about my current phase for a few reasons: Asking for support - I have been very blessed to work with and meet so many amazing people across the tech industry and I know that as big as the world is, it’s also a small world!  I would love to find a role that allows me to do what I do well - help others realize value and achieve success.  My goal is to stay in the tech space and continue to focus on customer success.  But I’d also love to be part of shaping, improving, collaborating and building an amazing CS org, while continuing to grow and learn, myself. Many IT companies continue to tighten their belts. I read this article a couple of days earlier- 𝘐𝘉𝘔 𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘰𝘧𝘧 𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘪𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘴: 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 It is not about IBM. Every other company I know is doing it. Some quietly. Some openly. And most of the people being let go are just like you and me. Hard-working, focused, stars in their areas—and who have all been loyal to their companies and jobs. I think we are at a new beginning. It is time to look out for yourself and be loyal to yourself first. Build new skills, and hone them while you continue working. It will come in handy when you decide to do something on your own, or if it is forced on you. Either way- there is no other way. And you will suddenly realize, it is liberating! What a year of transition it's been for so many of us. New opportunities, continuing tech layoffs and budget cuts, exciting posted positions with no plans to hire or being ghosted during the hiring process—what a rollercoaster. While I haven’t experienced what is defining the 2024 job market because I softly landed in a consulting role, I know not everyone has been so lucky. As we approach the end of the year, many companies have already started to shift into "holiday mode" and are wrapping up their final deliverables and putting their hiring on hold. While this year may not have been the highlight reel we all hoped for, I’ve always found the end of the year to be a unique opportunity to pause and reflect. No matter where you are in your career—whether you're a seasoned leader, just starting out or looking for your next role—this time of year offers a chance to celebrate your wins, acknowledge your growth, and give yourself credit for what you’ve accomplished. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle or a new job search, but reflecting on your achievements is an important step in understanding your impact. And while you’re taking that moment to appreciate your journey, it’s also a great time to start thinking about what’s next. Every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I spend some time asking myself a few questions to ground my plans and hopes for the upcoming year. With so much uncertainty, I'm hoping sharing these might help someone else find clarity for the upcoming year. 1. What do you want to achieve in the upcoming year? 2. Is there a new challenge or responsibility you’re excited to take on in your current role? 3. Are you considering a move to a new position or company? 4. Or perhaps there’s something personal outside of work you want to accomplish in addition to your professional goals? This period of reflection and forward-thinking can be incredibly powerful. Taking the time now to set your intentions for the year ahead—whether career-related or personal—will help set the tone for what I'm hoping will be a successful and fulfilling year to come for all of us. I've seen so many of you being impacted by a recent layoff or restructure. I say this with great sincerity, my heart goes out to you. Both my husband and I have been in these situations in our careers, and it completely feels blindsiding. It questions your value, impacts your confidence and makes you feel... lost and fearful. I want you to know that I see you. I want you to know that I want to help too. Genuinely. You aren't alone. You are valuable, talented, skilled and deserve something new and better! It's hard to not allow it to consume you, but don't allow the situation to make you doubt yourself. You are FAR MORE than just an employee! Important Things to Say Chapter 1: Building Resilience in the Face of Career Transitions Reading time: About 7 mins The story: Woke up one Tuesday morning to a deafening silence.  This was the day I experienced a career transition.  Flashback to around 5 years ago, when I saw a layoff happen for the first time. At that time, I struggled to comprehend its implications. As someone deeply attuned to emotions, I perceived it as a harsh and unjust action. Recalling subsequent encounters with layoffs, each instance initially stirred feelings of disappointment and grief. However, navigating through these experiences, I reframed my perspective. Through this evolution, I realized that these moments of upheaval were not setbacks but opportunities for profound personal and professional development. Sanjali, time to embrace change. In the face of sudden job loss, how does one navigate the whirlwind of emotions and uncertainties? The undeniable reality about layoffs is that they are rarely personal; instead, they represent strategic decisions made by businesses to optimize resources and foster growth. As I confronted another transition on that pivotal Tuesday morning, I discovered a newfound sense of composure within myself. While disappointment and apprehension lingered, I recognized that my professional growth had equipped me to confront this challenge with resilience and adaptability. Sanjali, time to navigate this situation. To fully embrace this situation, I had to: 1. Maintain Mental Resilience : Feel, accept and move on 2. Perform Strategic Reflection and Plan: Take time to plan your vision 3. Take Action: When ready, update that CV and build that portfolio 4. Yet, it's in these moments of adversity that we often discover our greatest strengths.
