Across the world, AI is helping to create more efficient and safe healthcare systems, aiding diagnosis and treatment, patient care, and streamlining daily admin. But in what three areas is AI making the largest difference to Canadian healthcare, specifically? ️➡️ Quality of care – AI is being introduced into the systems and processes used to treat and monitor patients, leading to more efficient and effective care. For example, Swift Medical's platform combines mobile devices, AI-powered computer vision, and machine learning to help document, measure, and monitor wounds. ➡️ Admin support – By automating administrative tasks such as diary management, billing and staffing, AI is reducing the administrative burden on clinicians and allowing them to focus more of their time on delivering exceptional patient care. ➡️ System management – To better manage our workforce and resources long-term, AI can be used to forecast demand and deploy resources more accurately. Will 2024 be a turning point for value-based care, as this article by Rajiv Mahale in Future Healthcare Today suggests? It could be in primary care if leaders are thoughtful about where they innovate and with whom. Mahale suggests value-based care innovation this year will be fueled by the adoption and ethical use of #AI, the ability to reduce the administrative burden of care on staff, and improved prior authorization processes, the importance of which cannot be overstated.
