🌿🔥 **GAS PACKAGE: Adoption of the Interinstitutional Agreement** The EU Council adopted, on May 21, the interinstitutional agreement on the gas package, including a directive and a regulation, aiming to promote the integration of renewable and low-carbon gases into the energy system, particularly for hydrogen production. 📜 **Content of the Package:** - Member states are given the option to limit gas imports from Russia and Belarus. - Establishment of the independent entity ENNOH to plan European hydrogen networks, operational from January 2027. - Introduction of a common structural gas purchasing system and a five-year pilot project to support the EU hydrogen market. - End of long-term contracts for fossil gas from 2049 to gradually phase out fossil fuels. 🌍🔬 **Objective:** To promote the transition to more sustainable energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels while enhancing the EU's energy security. 💬 **Reactions:** Hungary is the only country to have rejected this package, highlighting the complexity of geopolitical and energy issues within the EU. #GasPackage #EnergyTransition #Hydrogen #RenewableEnergy #EU 🌱🔥

💬 "Now is the right time to take stock of where we are and what we still need to achieve our goal of becoming fully independent from Russian imports. We have achieved a lot, with the rapid development of renewable energy sources and effective reductions in energy consumption at EU level. But we still need to do more. First of all, imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia must be stopped. At EU level, seven new LNG terminals have been built in two years to find alternative gas supply routes, and there can be no compromise here," said Vice-Minister of Energy Minister Albinas Zananavicius. ☑️ On 30 May, the Vice-Minister attended the #EU's 🇪🇺 Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council #TTE in Brussels, which focused on the implementation of the REPowerEU objectives. As we look to the future of energy in Ireland, the outlook presents both challenges and opportunities. With the EU taking decisive steps to reduce its reliance on Russian gas, Ireland must also prepare for this transition. While Ireland currently receives most of its gas from the UK, we are still connected to the broader European gas market, meaning geopolitical shifts will have an impact on us too. The EU is ready for the upcoming changes, with Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy stating, “there are no excuses, the EU can live without this Russian gas.” By 2025, the EU plans to manage a “zero-transit” scenario from Russia, thanks to alternative supply routes like increased LNG imports and enhanced infrastructure. This is a crucial moment for Ireland to diversify energy sources and look toward renewables like wind and renewable gas 🌱. For Irish businesses, this evolving landscape may lead to fluctuating energy costs, making it more important than ever to have expert guidance. As energy brokers, we’re here to help you navigate these shifts, secure competitive deals, and prepare for the future of energy supply. Important developments ahead for the UK energy market! As Russia's gas transit contract with Ukraine nears its end, the EU faces the potential for higher energy prices next winter. This could have significant implications for consumers and businesses across Europe, including the UK. The expiration of the contract highlights the urgent need for diversification and resilience in our energy supply chains. While efforts to reduce reliance on Russian gas have been underway since 2022, the impending loss of gas imports underscores the challenges ahead. As we prepare for potential price hikes and supply disruptions, it's crucial for stakeholders in the UK energy sector to stay vigilant and proactive. We must explore alternative sources, invest in infrastructure, and implement energy efficiency measures to mitigate the impact on consumers and ensure a stable energy future. Could we see prices increase in 2024? Let's work together to navigate these challenges and build a more resilient, sustainable energy system for the UK and beyond. #UKEnergy #EnergyFuture #EUTransition

Ukraine has been plying the renewable energy levers to keep the lights on, even as Russia continues to wage a misbegotten war on the civilian population. Now the energy consequences are ratcheting up. A significant new solar deal is expected to kickstart private equity interest in Ukraine’s vast renewable energy resources, and the country is embarking on a new effort to leverage its fossil energy position against Russia’s allies. https://lnkd.in/d82GiF-b
