Seeing the positive impact of my coaching system on individuals and organizations has been a source of immense pride. The feedback I received—“Wow, Gary, your system doesn’t suck”—was a notable shift from the usual skepticism that often surrounds HR initiatives. Typically, system changes yield improvements, but this response validated our efforts in a profound way. What truly excites me is the potential for scalability. I focused on crafting a system that empowers others to motivate and engage their teams effectively. It’s not just about my ability to inspire; it’s about equipping leaders across the organization to foster motivation at every level. By developing a coaching framework that can be replicated throughout mid-sized and larger companies, I aimed to create a sustainable model for growth and success. The goal has always been to transform how we approach performance management, enabling everyone to contribute to a culture of excellence. For various reasons, I like spending my weekends studying, and this time, I completed the course "Coaching and Developing Employees". I became passionate about coaching and leadership. In a fast-changing world, leaders must evolve from directing tasks to coaching teams and fostering learning, creativity, and development. Proper coaching is about listening, asking open-ended questions, and creating a space where people and teams can grow, take ownership of their work, and develop their potential. The course challenges common myths, such as "coaching is handholding," "there's no time for coaching," and "If I develop my people, I risk losing them." On the contrary, investing in coaching is inspirational, enhances engagement, builds trust, and drives results. Coaching helps foster a growth-oriented organisational culture for business success and personal development. I like imagining a future where every conversation is an opportunity for growth. The principles I studied today will allow me to experiment with new ways to engage with others.

Creating a Culture of Coaching over Inspection: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly In many organizations, it's often easier to focus on a culture of inspection - tracking numbers and identifying what's good, bad, and ugly. While metrics and accountability are important, the real art lies in forming people through coaching. 🔍 The Good: - Numbers provide clear insights into performance. - Allows for quick identification of issues. - Helps in maintaining accountability. ⚠️ The Bad: - leads to a culture of blame and fear. - Often overlooks the underlying causes of issues. - May neglect the development of soft skills and leadership qualities. 😱 The Ugly: - High turnover due to a stressful work environment. - Decreased employee engagement and satisfaction. - Stagnation in personal and professional growth. 👥 The Art of Coaching: - Empowers employees to take ownership of their growth. - Builds trust and opens lines of communication. - Encourages innovation by fostering a safe environment for ideas. - Develops leadership skills that drive long-term success. Transforming from a culture of inspection to a culture of coaching is challenging but crucial. It involves patience, commitment, and a willingness to invest in people. As leaders, let’s focus on empowering our teams through coaching and watch how it transforms our organizations from within. #LeadershipDevelopment #CoachingCulture #EmployeeEmpowerment #OrganizationalGrowth #TalentManagement #WorkplaceCulture

It's an exciting time to be working in talent development and HR. So much is changing at such a rapid rate, that the traditional management style of command and control is no longer effective. Managers need to develop their coaching skills to help employees learn and adapt. So, thinking about this, I remembered a HBR article from 2019 which deep dived on transforming an organization to a learning culture, and how important it is to adopt a coaching style of leadership to succeed. There's a couple of great examples in there about how Microsoft and Allen & Overy took this exact approach, and how this impacted their businesses and cultures. Here are some of the key takeaways from the article: ⭐ Coaching is a skill that can be learned and improved with practice. ⭐ Coaching can be more effective than directive management in helping employees learn and grow. ⭐ Organizations need to create a culture that supports coaching by providing training and removing barriers. ⭐ Coaching can lead to a number of benefits, including increased employee engagement, innovation, and productivity.
