🤝 KONGSBERG signs development contract for Supersonic Strike Missile Thrilled to announce that we have signed a contract with Forsvarsmateriell - Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency for the initial development phase of the new German-Norwegian missile system Supersonic Strike Missile (3SM). The contract value for the first development phase is up to 1.5 billion NOK. Set to be deployed on future vessels from 2035, the Supersonic Strike Missile represents the next generation in missile systems. “Close cooperation between industry, authorities, and research institutions forms the foundation for innovation and job creation, while we maintain our position as a world-leading missile manufacturer," said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Netherlands joins European long-range missile initiative Under the French ELSA (European Long-Range Strike Approach) initiative, European countries want to develop land-based cruise missiles with a range of 1,000 to 2,000 kilometers THE HAGUE, November 28/ The Netherlands has decided to join the French initiative to develop long-range missiles, Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans wrote on his X page. "European countries need long-range missiles," he said. "That's why I announced in Paris that the Netherlands wants to participate in the French initiative to develop them," the top defense official said. Under the French ELSA (European Long-Range Strike Approach) initiative, European countries want to develop land-based cruise missiles with a range of 1,000 to 2,000 kilometers. The United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Sweden are also participating in the project. It is expected to take several years to complete. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia to deliver the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) for the Lockheed Martin F-35A aircraft. The initial contract is worth about NOK 1 billion. The specific JSM capabilities enhance the advanced F-35A aircraft, creating a formidable capability against land and sea targets, and boosting Australia’s ability to strike targets from long-range. The Joint Strike Missile (JSM) has been specifically designed for internal carriage on the F-35 aircraft and provides a significant long range maritime strike and land attack capability. JSM is an air-launched strike missile and is designed to fulfill complex missions, such as Anti-surface Warfare (ASuW) and land attack. The primary targets are typically movable highly defended and high-value assets on sea, in coastal waters or on land. JSM has advanced off-board, on-board and in-flight mission planning capability and can engage targets based on a pre-defined set of Rules-of-Engagement. Sweden has officially decided to join the European Long Range Strike Approach (ELSA) initiative. The announcement was made following a recent meeting of NATO defence ministers, during which Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson signed a letter of intent formalizing Sweden’s participation in the European missile development project. “The war in Ukraine has underscored the importance of long-range deep strike capabilities, not only for deterrence but also for preventing adversaries from launching attacks from beyond our defensive reach,” Jonson shared on X (formerly known as Twitter). The ELSA initiative was originally unveiled in June 2024 when defense ministers from the Weimar Triangle countries—France, Germany, and Poland—signed a letter of intent to jointly pursue the development of a ground launched cruise missile. 🤝 KONGSBERG secures new JSM contract from Japan We have entered a fourth follow-on contract with Japan to supply the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) for the country’s fleet of F-35A fighter aircraft. The contract is valued at NOK 1.9 billion. The JSM is a 5th generation stealth air-to surface missile developed to fill F-35A anti-surface warfare (ASuW) and land attack capability gaps. JSM can be carried internally in the F-35A thus ensuring the aircraft’s agility, range and low-signature capabilities. “The fifth order for the Joint Strike Missile underlines the important role of the JSM in Japan’s national defence strategy and is another example of the close and growing relationship between Norway, Japan and KONGSBERG,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Japan first ordered the JSM in 2018 and has since placed several follow-on contracts with KONGSBERG.
