Should I send appeal letters to my major donors? Here’s a thought—do your major donors really want to be the proud owners of yet another generic letter for their recycling bin? Probably not. From personal experience, most donors aren’t fans of appeal letters. They’re impersonal, and frankly, your donor is likely juggling more mail from charities than your average postie sees in a day. The best way to secure support during a campaign or appeal? A personal connection. Meet them in person if you can (bonus points if there’s coffee involved), or pick up the phone if distance is an issue. Trust me, your chances of success skyrocket when you leave the paper trail behind. That said, if you must send a letter, don’t let it go out alone—add a handwritten note. It’s like adding sprinkles to a cupcake. It shows care, and it stands out.
