Distributors to contractors: here’s a best news update on the new acquisition monster, QXO. Adds: 1. QXO’s initial vague ambition was to consolidate the construction industry. Oppenheimer now infers the broadest definition of “building products”: 800B across multiple channels. 2. Rexel is controlled by Cevian Capital, a patient, long-term investor, which nixed the deal. a. How many PE roll-ups are there across all construction material channels? b. How many are controlled by impatient PE owners (needing to return cash to investors) and worried about the impact of a global downturn on valuations? c. Will they be calling QXO? 3. Rollups selling out can cause their local branches to weaken. Will there be opportunities for local independents to pounce on any weaknesses? 4. This will be an interesting story to watch for all distributors to contractors.
