As we look toward the retail holiday season and planning for the year ahead, MOHR Retail will be hosting a panel discussion that explores the landscape of retail store environments today, focusing on a range of topics, including the dynamic roles of store teams, the rise and fall of self-checkout systems, how stores are increasingly becoming fulfillment centers, and how successful retailers are addressing issues related to mental health, safety, and burnout amid preparations for the holiday season. Here’s a quick overview of some of these hot-button retail store trends and issues and what we’ll be focusing on during the webinar: ↪The Evolution of Store Roles With the surge of Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store (BOPIS) options and stores doubling as fulfillment centers, retail teams are adapting to new responsibilities. The traditional role of a store employee has shifted from managing in-store tasks to balancing online orders and managing stock all while building loyalty by ensuring a seamless customer experience, both online and offline. ↪The Rise and Fall of Self-Checkout Self-checkout was once hailed as a revolutionary step forward in retail efficiency, offering customers a quicker way to check out while reducing the need for staff. However, recent concerns over security, increased theft, and the impersonal nature of the experience have led some retailers to reconsider their reliance on self-checkout systems. ↪Doing More with Less As staffing challenges continue to rise, retailers are finding themselves needing to do more with fewer employees. Retailers need to rethink scheduling, training, and multi-role positions while looking for best practices that help streamline operations. If you’re interested in joining this panel discussion, reach out to me! We’re looking for your experiences, insights, ideas, and/or other lessons you might be able to share to add to a lively, thought-provoking discussion #LearnMOHR #RetailTrends #Retail

Y'all already know that I'm a HUGE hourly workforce experience nerd. Especially when it comes to the #QSR and #CStore verticals. That's why when I was reading through Newsweek's third annual ranking of America's Best Retailers, the fact that my five favorite convenience store chains made the list. Why? The main reasons why are level of customer experience and atmosphere amongst others. But the factor that stood out to me the most was "customer experience" and in more detail they measured "the friendliness, helpfulness, and availability of employees in-store". And as we all know, the employee experience directly ties into the guest experience which is why I'm so dang proud of these chains who stood out from the rest and excelled in this category most of all. So, who were the brands that made the list that are also in my favorites list? ✨ Love's Travel Stops (OKC-based, and my personal favorite convenience store chain) with a score of 86.9. ✨ Buc-ee's, Ltd. (no surprise here, am I right?) with a score of 94.37. ✨ Sheetz (looking at you and your amazing team specifically, Stephanie) with a score of 88.9. ✨ QuikTrip (an ATL staple, for me, even though they're not even based here, ahaha) with a score of 89.6. ✨ Wawa, Inc. (man, do I need a Wawa road trip in the foreseeable future) with a score of 90.08. Did any of your favorite, non C-Store brands make this year's list? Or any C-Store brands you wish HAD made the list? For me, that's Casey's. But they're def going to be on there next year with their recent acq. of CEFCO....and their breakfast pizza. 📉 Food for thought for all #retailers: 1 in 5 store associates think their current devices are unhelpful or have no impact on their productivity when doing daily tasks such as order picking, price checking, and inventory counting. 👩💼 Furthermore - 68% of store associates said that the device they use on a daily basis is an important (or very important) factor in whether they would stay in their current role. 👦 In addition, the younger the employees are, the more sensitive they are to the devices they use. 🎯 Key takeaway: This is really important to workers (especially younger workers) - and 1 in 5 don't feel like their devices are helping them be more productive. 📘 Find out the cause and how to address this in our research report where we explore insights from 2,000 retail store associates worldwide 👉 https://lnkd.in/d-uVWDuZ

A recent visit to one of my former stores I couldn’t help but notice the chaos of the store merchandise, which prompted this post: As a former retail store manager, I can’t help but notice the current state of disarray in many retail stores. Shelves are often untidy, merchandise is misplaced, and overall store presentation seems to be falling short of traditional retail standards. During my time in retail management, maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment was a top priority. It wasn’t just about aesthetics—it directly impacted customer experience, sales performance, and employee morale. Several factors could be contributing to this decline today: 🔹 Staffing Challenges: The retail industry has faced significant staffing shortages, leading to fewer hands on deck for restocking and tidying up. 🔹 Supply Chain Disruptions: Delays and overstock situations may cause clutter as stores struggle to manage incoming shipments. 🔹 Training Gaps: With high turnover rates, consistent training on store standards may be harder to maintain. 🔹 Customer Behavior: Shoppers leaving items in the wrong places or damaging goods adds to the challenge of keeping stores organized. Retail success depends on creating a positive in-store experience. Investing in staff, improving operational processes, and reinforcing store standards are essential steps retailers must take to rebuild the customer experience we once worked so hard to maintain. To fellow shoppers: A little consideration can go a long way. Let’s do our part by placing items back where they belong and treating store environments with respect. It makes shopping better for everyone. — Former Retail Store Manager #retail #retailstoremanager
