What is Retrieval-Augmented Generation AKA #RAG? And why should I care? ❓ ❓ ❓ I didn't know the answer to this yesterday but I had to look it up and since I found it useful I thought I would share the gist of it: RAG is a technique to extend the power of an #LLM to get you the best answer to your question. It does this by directing the LLM to sources of information that are known to be authoritative and/or that exist in your internal systems instead of just the public data sources the LLM trained on. Oh, and you don't have to retrain the model either. 👍 So it saves time, increases reliability and helps to ensure the answer is up to date. And hopefully your analytics platform is built to harness both analytics and AI so you get the best of both worlds when using it? If not, do get in touch? #GenBi is the way forward! Wow, the pace at which AI hyperscalers have added DeepSeek's R1 model as an option to their platforms is amazing. This is where I do see the approach as multiple model selection / abstraction is an ideal way to keep up with the innovation. ✅ Pay attention to where a hyperscaler makes money and you will see this influence their strategy in LLMs. Is it compute? Is it model development ✅ Model distillation and mixed model training seems to be a more efficient approach versus "train on ALL the data out there." Who have we seen announce or release support for DeepSeek this week as of Friday 12 ET: - Microsoft Azure AI Foundry and GitHub - Perplexity - Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker AI - Snowflake Cortex AI Who am I missing? Who is not going down this path - I don't see Google (Gemini), Databricks or Meta embracing or a statement for supporting or against, have you? For sure, there is much to consider in privacy risks and EU regulations but it's a matter of how to solve for these things rather than unilaterally disregard.
