On Monday New Zealand’s new National Health Targets focusing on five priority areas - access, timeliness, quality, workforce and infrastructure - came into effect. Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora will report progress on the targets quarterly, seeking to improve access to #cancer treatment and shorten wait times in emergency departments. It is great to see the New Zealand Government setting clear health targets with the vision of achieving better health outcomes for New Zealanders and better work environments for the #healthcare workforce. Technology will be crucial to unlocking opportunities under the five priority areas. GE HealthCare’s Reimagining Better Healthcare research report, released last year, found that in New Zealand there is a lack of access to medical technology that enhances clinician confidence, and that less than half of New Zealand clinicians feel that #AI medical technology is ready for medical use, compared to 58 percent of all clinicians in other countries surveyed. GE HealthCare believes that better patient and clinician outcomes can be achieved through engaging digital #innovation. Increased investment into digital infrastructure and #medtech can greatly alleviate the pressure on New Zealand’s healthcare sector and lead to more precise, connected and compassionate care, and better outcomes for patients and clinicians. #GEHealthCare

🩺While digital connectivity can greatly enhance #healthcare delivery, especially in regions lacking traditional medical facilities, the overall impact of this increased access to information remains a topic of ongoing evaluation and debate. ⭐This column examines the effect of internet access on #COVID-19 spread in #Indonesia, a developing country characterised by considerable variations in both mobile internet access and COVID-19 cases at the local level. 👉It finds that access to 3G broadband internet reduced cases by approximately 45%, a relatively large impact compared to the effectiveness of other non-pharmaceutical interventions. 📖Areas with higher literacy rates and a greater ability to telework experienced even more pronounced benefits. Vox column by: Johannes Kunz (Monash University), Carol Propper (Imperial College Business School, Monash University, Institute For Fiscal Studies), Trong-Anh Trinh (Monash University) Read more here: https://ow.ly/VBuq50TKAsx

Despite housing around one-fifth of the world's population, #Africa is disproportionately underserved in healthcare technology. According to a WHO report, only 30% of health facilities in Africa have the necessary equipment and reagents to perform basic diagnostic tests. This gap underscores the critical demand for accessible #healthcare solutions. To address this, we've partnered with Nanox to introduce portable 2D X-ray devices. These devices revolutionise the availability and affordability of medical imaging, particularly in remote areas, leveraging their service-based business model. "Telemedicine has the potential to be a transformative solution for ensuring the continuity of consultations in remote areas. However, the lack of tech-savviness among the population poses a challenge. Raising awareness about telemedicine within these communities can lead to significant improvements. Digital literacy will be crucial in this process, along with access to devices and user-friendly language platforms, which can help maximize the benefits of telemedicine." - Sishir Rao, MD, Co-founder & Managing Trustee, Indian Heart Association the ET Now Indian Cardiac Care Innovation Summit 2024 presented by Meril, in association with the Indian Heart Association.
