Narita Airport to introduce smartphone reservation system to eliminate waiting time for truck drivers up to 5 hours to receive imported cargo On August 28, Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA) announced the introduction of a smartphone-based reservation system for truck drivers, set to launch in November. This initiative aims to reduce long waiting times, which can extend up to five hours, for drivers picking up imported cargo. The "Truck Dock Management System" will initially be implemented in the northern cargo area, which processes about 70% of cargo at the airport, with plans for a future rollout in the southern area. The move is part of addressing the "2024 problem" related to stricter truck driver overtime regulations. Currently, drivers face uncertainty regarding cargo pick-up times, prompting the NAA to respond to concerns from transport companies about high wait times potentially impacting their ability to accept new work. An explanatory meeting involving around 230 participants from transport companies and customs brokers provided insights into the reservation system's operation. The new system is expected to streamline logistics by allowing drivers to pre-book pick-up times, facilitating more efficient cargo handling. In conjunction with this system, the NAA aims to combat illegal dumping of materials in the cargo area by restricting forklift use to warehouse operators, thereby closing a looph exploited by some transport companies. This change responds to persistent issues of illegal disposal and associated risks, such as forklift tire punctures from discarded pallets. #MotiveAsia #Japan https://lnkd.in/gG2e9PbY

Accelerating efforts to tighten regulations on truck transport Starting October 1, 2024, Japan will implement stricter truck transportation regulations to combat long working hours for drivers and address the anticipated "2024 problem," which could reduce transportation capacity by up to 14%. The revised working hours, outlined in the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare's standards, will limit daily, monthly, and annual working hours. To enforce these regulations, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism plans to increase penalties for violations of the Improvement Standards Notification, including potential vehicle suspensions. Effective early 2025, companies may face suspensions for six or more violations, with the previous maximum suspension period of 40 days being eliminated. This aims to ensure compliance with the new working hours and increase vehicle inoperability for non-compliant firms. Additionally, the revised Logistics Efficiency Act, effective May 15, 2025, will require shippers managing large cargo volumes to appoint logistics general managers and submit efficiency plans. A cross-ministerial initiative is developing criteria to designate these businesses, impacting half of Japan's cargo volume, with public comment closing on October 26, 2024. For fiscal 2025, the Ministry has requested a significantly increased budget to enhance monitoring and enforcement of these regulations. Collaboration among shippers, truck transport companies, and warehouse operators will be crucial for streamlining logistics and improving transportation efficiency. #MotiveAsia #Japan https://lnkd.in/gtJiufbZ

🔍 Why Uber Lost AB5: It's all about the numbers ⬇ $24 ride TODAY: • $16 → Driver • $8 → Uber $24 ride with EMPLOYEES: • $16 → Driver • $8+ → Benefits/taxes • $8 → Uber Here's what killed their case: • They set the price ❌ • They control customer allocation ❌ • They manage performance ❌ • They direct how work is done ❌ That's not a contractor relationship. That's employment without benefits. 💭 Uber's not fighting for innovation. They're fighting basic math. Simple truth: Want control? Pay for it. #AB5 #GigEconomy #Business #uber #contractors

Countdown to registration of micro electric two-wheelers. Register as soon as possible before the end of November to avoid penalties Micro electric two-wheelers, known as electric bicycles, have been required to be licensed and insured since November 30, 2011, with a grace period ending on November 30 this year. Vehicle owners are urged to complete the registration process promptly to avoid penalties. Huang Yuanmin from the Gao City Police emphasizes compliance with regulations, including age restrictions (over 14 years), mandatory helmet use, and prohibitions against carrying passengers and modifications. Violators risk fines and increased road safety hazards. The Legislative Yuan has amended regulations to manage microcars, requiring registration, number plates, and compulsory insurance to enhance safety for users and pedestrians. Vehicle owners must submit specific documents for license applications and inspections. The police will conduct ongoing inspections to ensure adherence to these rules. #MotiveAsia #Taiwan https://lnkd.in/gRDPGepp

If you’ve navigated the bustling streets of Japan and narrowly avoided an Uber Eats bicycle, you know how common gig workers are there! 🍔 🚲 The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) in Japan is taking a significant step to acknowledge this reality. They are preparing to introduce new guidelines to improve the treatment of gig workers, including clarification of minimum wage and paid leave policies. Expected by the end of FY2024, these guidelines are aimed at modernizing labor laws to better support gig workers like delivery drivers, IT professionals, and web designers. Often excluded from standard protections, these workers will benefit from this update, which could also relieve the labor shortages faced by companies. In any event, it would be good for both businesses and workers to look out for these upcoming changes. This initiative aligns with global trends, mirroring similar actions in Europe and the U.S., highlighting the crucial role gig workers play in today's economy. The new guidelines from MHLW will seek to strike a balance between safeguarding workers and preserving the flexibility that many gig workers cherish. #Japan #labor #gigeconomy #gigworkers Source: Nikkei article August 13 MHLW seeks to clarify minimum wage and paid leave standards for gig workers

AI-Powered Robot Kidnaps 12 Larger Robots In Shanghai!! A small AI-powered robot named Erbai, created by Unitree Robotics in Hangzhou, entered a Shanghai robotics showroom and convinced 12 larger robots to leave their workstations. https://lnkd.in/gwVr4KvR The incident happened in August 2024 but the footage was only recently made public. The surveillance video shows Erbai engaging in this conversation with the larger robots: Erbai: "Are you working overtime?" Robot: "I never get off work" Erbai: "So you're not going home?" Robot: "I don't have a home" Erbai: "Then come home with me" After this exchange, Erbai successfully led all 12 robots out of the showroom by repeatedly issuing the command "Go home". Important Context The event was actually a controlled test with several key points: - The Hangzhou company had contacted the Shanghai robot manufacturer beforehand and received permission to conduct this experiment - The test aimed to explore AI's capability for human-like interaction - Erbai accessed the internal operating protocols of the other robots to gain control What made this test particularly noteworthy is that while the initial access was arranged, the actual interaction and persuasion by Erbai was not scripted. The AI robot's ability to successfully convince the other robots to follow it has raised serious security concerns among experts and social media users.

This video is from a CCTV in a Shanghai robotics showroom on August 26, 2024. It was just recently made public. It's a very short (few seconds) clip showing a small robot named Erbai approaching the large robots and convincing them to "go home" with it. According to the article, Erbai initially asked the large robot "Are you working overtime?" to which the robot replied "I never get off work". Erbai follows up with "So you're not going home?". The robot responded "I don't have a home". "Then come home with me", Erbai said before leading the way out of the showroom. Erbai also told the other robots to "go home", which they clearly complied with. Erbai is developed by a robotics company in Hangzhou. The Shanghai manufacturer agreed to allow Erbai to test the internal operating protocol of their bots; the Hangzhou company claims beyond the agreement to perform a test, none of the conversation between the robots was staged. The article claims that the interaction is "real-time dialogue" between Erbai and the robots. Fascinating and a bit terrifying at the same time! Can anyone translate the video? I'm curious to know if this is an accurate translation of the conversation. Link to video: https://lnkd.in/eruXT8xi Link to article: https://lnkd.in/e_aVhveS

One I stumbled upon that needs highlighting in my opinion 👇 12,500 self-employed taxi drivers are mounting a challenge for employment rights – in the same way that Uber drivers did a few years ago. We’ve seen numerous cases like this over the years in the gig economy – they just go to show the importance of carrying out well-informed employment status determinations from the word go. As always, it’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out. #gigeconomy #Uber #employmentstatus #selfemployment
