WTF Google? Aren't you "all-in" when it comes to making PWA discovery and installation easier? 90% of all apps in the app stores could have been a PWA, but it doesn't help if you make decisions like this in the Chrome UI. Please turn back this idiotic decision to have "Install Page as App" & "Install <app-name>" sit under "Cast, save and share" 🤯🤬😱!!! Agree? #pwa #freethepwa #whoneedsgatekeepers #chrome #webapp
Is that the flow in android phones? Here how it looks on iPhone Safari, see image. Should not the aim for this be able to have a button on the site that does that installation/adding to homescreen? Its ridiculous for example in the todo app from microsoft, they shows the user the steps for adding to homescreen as a how to images manual🤦🏻
They don't like PWA because PWA are the best fit for users and providers. I mean: they don't need a any intermediary and this way Google Play store does not bill them for nothing.
Hopefully we’ll soon get the same-origin Web Install API and we can finally put this situation to bed once and for all: https://github.com/w3ctag/design-reviews/issues/888
Play store makes da money.
I agree, it's a bad place and hard to find 😓
Exactly, we optimize heavily for PWA UX but only 10% of users understand how it works and what the difference is between a shortcut to a website a PWA and an App. TBH even as a developer I had to look up how to „install“ a PWA on iOS. It should be like requesting access to native functions like microphones: Should we add this page to your Home Screen.
is it to discourage low effort apps in play store
Monopolies are monopolies, isn't? They are prioritizing their Stores and limiting the freedom for users/providers to choose

4moI have recently started looking into PWAs and how they can be adopted by businesses to cut down costs of building and maintaining native apps while improving profitability. I think that Google should lead this campaign to proding businesses on the viability of PWAs. That's if they (Google) are really interested to see businesses grow.
