It's my job to improve my employee engagement. It's your job to improve yours. It's not "Management's" job. It's leadership's job; not "Leadership" as in the people in Management roles, leadership (little L) as in YOU as the leader of yourself and your life. Are you intentionally doing your best to improve your engagement? I could do better; I'm trying harder all the time. Take ownership of your happiness. It's empowering. Don't wait for others to improve your work life. It's disempowering. It makes you feel like a victim dependent on others for success. Instead of Gallup's employee engagement survey which uses passive questions, try Marshall Goldsmith's active questions. Regularly answering these questions will improve your behavior and enhance your chances of success. 1. Did I do my best to increase my happiness? 2. Did I do my best to find meaning? 3. Did I do my best to be engaged? 4. Did I do my best to build positive relationships? 5. Did I do my best to set clear goals? 6. Did I do my best to make progress toward goal achievement? Are you uncomfortable? Or are you growing? Were you rejected? Or were you redirected? Have you failed? Or have you now learnt what not to do? Do you have problems? Or are they just new challenges to grow from? Are you being criticised? Or have you been given an opportunity to refine? Are you facing obstacles? Or are you finding new ways to be innovative?
