🇹🇼 rejects 🇨🇳's preconditions for cross-strait dialogue. https://t.co/oCujnMjuZA 1️⃣ 🇹🇼 Affairs Office Spokesperson's necessitated on adhering to 🇨🇳's 'One China' policy before resuming any cross-strait consultations. TAO is responsible for cross-strait relations and sets and implements guidelines and policies related to Taiwan. 2️⃣ The '1992 consensus' is the agreement between the two sides highlighting their interpretations of a single China under PRC. The Democratic People's party does not recognize any understanding under the 1992 consensus. 3️⃣ TAO's counterpart on 🇹🇼🇹🇼's side is mainland affairs council whose chairperson Chen Bin-hua (陳斌華) called for cross-strait dialogue without preconditions after 🇨🇳 said it was willing to talk under the framework of the “1992 consensus.” 4️⃣ People to people relations has been affected because of this blame gaming between the two nations. Even the universities have restrictions for visiting 🇨🇳 students. However, the MAC denied any applications from the other side. 5️⃣ Economic relations have also been affected because of the rising tensions, with 🇨🇳 restriction import of 🇹🇼 fruits and fishes including Pineapples and Grouper fish affecting exporters in 🇹🇼. 6️⃣ The situation in East 🇨🇳 Sea looks grim as every means of cooperation between the nations seems to fall apart. This calls for a rethinking over the present relationship with a new lens to bring some normalcy.
