📰 [#JUSTRELEASED] ✔ A new scientific paper has been released in Ocean Engineering journal! It describes a visco-elasto-plastic behaviour law for polyamide 6 on a representative scale for floating offshore wind turbines. 🌊 The first validation of the law with laboratory studies are presented in this paper. However, further work has been performed and the law was also validated in sea trials. It has been developed in the framework of #POLYAMOOR and #MONAMOOR research projects. This excellent collaboration with ENSTA Bretagne and Ifremer represents an important step towards innovative mooring solutions. The authors of this paper are Laure Civier, Yoan Chevillotte, Guilhem BLES, Guillaume Damblans, Frédéric Montel, Peter Davies and Yann MARCO. 👉 Read the paper: https://lnkd.in/eidwsZau 💡 Know more about #MONAMOOR project: https://lnkd.in/eFdCYPS5 BEXCO nv-sa, Bureau Veritas | Marine & Offshore, #NCD, RWE, SOFRESID ENGINEERING, TotalEnergies, Université Gustave Eiffel, Nantes Université, WEAMEC, WEst Atlantic Marine Energy Community #FOWT #polyamide #moorings #rope #characterisation #modelling #law

Today, we—Dr Alan J Murphy and Dr. Seyedvahid Vakili, AFNI, MRINA from the University of Southampton, along with Dr. Yuanchang Liu, Dr. Peng Wu, and Nana Kutin from UCL—held an internal meeting at UCL to kick off the second phase of the #CleanMaritime Project, supported by MarRI-UK. The project, titled "#Decarbonising the UK Fleet: A Life Cycle Assessment of Alternative Marine Fuels - Statement of Work," focuses on the development of a life cycle assessment (#LCA) software tool. During the first phase, the project conducted a comprehensive analysis of key alternative fuels, including #hydrogen, #ammonia, #biofuels, and #methanol. This phase evaluated their potential to decarbonize the maritime industry, considering various #technical, #operational, #economic, and #environmental disciplines, and assessed their readiness for application across different vessel types. In the second phase, we aim to develop the LCA software tool to analyze #alternativefuels and their associated propulsion systems under diverse scenarios within the UK shipping fleet. This tool will provide a detailed life cycle assessment of potential alternative fuels, supporting efforts to decarbonize the UK maritime sector effectively. The study will focus on promising fuel solutions, particularly their well-to-wake performance, and assess the suitability of a wide range of alternative fuels for the UK fleet. Given the project's #holistic, #systematic and #interdisciplinary approach, its outcomes are expected to be adaptable to broader contexts beyond the UK. We extend our sincere gratitude to MarRI-UK and its funding partners for their invaluable support in enabling this critical research. #ship, #port, #shipyard, #decarbonization, #renewableenergy, #alternativefuels, #IMO, #UK , #LCA, #hdrogen, #ammonia, #methanol, #biofuel University of Southampton UCL School of Engineering, University of Southampton Southampton Marine & Maritime Institute MarRI-UK Prof. Stephen Turnock Wenlong Gaozhang

Discover how THUNDER is using Thermochemical Energy Storage (TES) ✨ TES, powered by chemical reactions and sorption processes, offers a next-generation, efficient, and compact #StorageSolution. Perfect for capturing #lowgrade #wasteheat from data centres during summer and releasing it into Varna’s #districtheating networks in winter! 🏙️🔥 Why TES? ☑️ High energy density ☑️ Round-trip efficiency ☑️ Near-zero thermal loss Within the project we plan to conduct #studies and #activities that can lead to a testable product capable of efficiently storing the #heat from the data centre. THUNDER will mainly focus on salt hydrates, adsorbent materials (silica gel, zeolite, metal-organic frameworks) and composites of them. For this, we are ensuring that we are: ✅ Using low-temp storage (below 100°C) ❄️ ✅ Avoiding flammable chemicals 🔒 ✅ Prioritising environmental impact and safety 🌱 Learn more about TES with #THUNDER! www.thunderproject.eu RINA I IVL I TEN21 I CARTIF I SteelTech I Università degli Studi di Firenze I Università degli Studi di Genova I HiRef S.p.A. I am pleased to share our latest paper "Greenhouse gas emissions of shipping with onboard carbon capture under the FuelEU Maritime regulation: A well-to-wake evaluation of different propulsion scenarios" is now published in Chemical Engineering Journal (CEJ) [IF 13]! The paper is available in open access here: https://lnkd.in/dK-gjxfQ In the past few years, the research and industrial interest in onboard carbon capture (OCCS) has boomed drastically spanning a lot of interesting questions on the topic, especially as the IMO and the EU are setting stronger frameworks to reduce the emissions from the maritime sector. While most of the research on OCCS has focused on LNG-fuel ship, it is interesting to better understand the impact of OCCS on the GHG intensity of different shipping scenarios (type of fuel and engines). In our new study, we thus look at the impact of OCCS on the GHG intensity of 9 shipping scenarios (1 based on HFO-, 5 MGO-, and 3 LNG-based scenarios). We looked not only at tank-to-wake emissions (TtW) but well-to-wake (WtW), as well as how these different scenarios would perform under the FuelEU Maritime framework (both in terms of emission reduction constraint over time and economic performances). The work is another example of the fantastic collaboration between SINTEF Energy Research and Seoul National University on OCCS. Co-authors: Juyoung Oh, Donghoi Kim, Simon Roussanaly, Prof. Youngsub Lim. If you are interested in the OCCS topic, we have published two other papers since the beginning of the year: _ Exploring the technical feasibility of carbon capture onboard ships: https://lnkd.in/dAHnaUFZ _ Optimal capacity design of amine-based onboard CO2 capture systems under variable marine engine loads: https://lnkd.in/dGwJnqQb These three works are part of the CCShip project (https://lnkd.in/db2EHrCe) financed by the Norges forskningsråd, Wärtsilä Exhaust Treatment, Klaveness Combination Carriers ASA, Calix Limited, and NCCS: Norwegian CCS Research Centre. Energi Simulation President, Duke Anderson, VP Technology, Andrew Seto, and UniCamp Professor, Denis Schiozer, visited our research chair, Professor Leonardo José do Nascimento Guimarães, and his research team at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil, during Oct. 7-8, 2024. In addition to maintaining part of his current research program on #reservoir modelling and robust #optimization, Professor Guimarães would shift his focus to underground #storage, mobilizing his #geomechanics expertise to support #CCUS, salt cavern stability, #CO2 mineralization, and other energy resource modelling projects. All of the industry sponsors (Petrobras, Braskem, Repsol-Sinopec) in attendance are interested in addressing the techno-economic-environmental challenges as they aim to build a sustainable energy future for the nation. #energy #research #engineering #oilandgas
