Clean energy. Evolved. Stainless steel production is highly energy intensive. Increasing the share of low-carbon electricity is one of the critical elements in Outokumpu’s decarbonization journey. In 2024, 90% of our electricity came from low-emission energy sources, renewable energy and nuclear. To reduce emissions related to energy, in 2024, we: ⚡️ executed energy efficiency initiatives ⚡️ secured availability of low-emission electricity through PPA’s and certificates ⚡️ have switched from fossil fuels to alternative fuels, and ⚡️ made an investment decision on a biocarbon plant in Germany.
